I remember hoiberg having doubts whether mayo can be a superstar in the league. He felt mayo lacks nba quickness to get by nba defenders and would be a jump shooter in the league. The guys he likes the most at the kevin love draft was rose, love and lopez.
Flip was on record saying he thought love could be a double double guy, but never thought he could be a 20+10+ guy and one of the best players in the league. David khan famously said love would be the 4th best player on a contending team.

He was a firm believer in rubio before the draft.

He didnt think corey brewer projects to be a lock down defender. A disruptive and active defender? yes. But a lockdown bruce bowen, prince type that he is being hyped to be? no. Felt brewer didnt have the fundamentals and discipline to be that lock down defender.

He coached royce white and though he is a lottery talent. He told mchale that when the rockets did background check on white. Of course white has mental issues as well and we may never know whether he indeed has lottery talent or not.

World, I thought Hoiberg was on the Mayo bandwagon. I remember he told the fans at the end of the night that we were keeping him. He was pissed the next day after McHale made the trade for Love. I never knew if it was due to McHale getting his way, or that he didn't like Love. I am pretty sure almost everyone in the draft room wanted to keep Mayo.

Sjm, i think hoiberg was pissed that he was told to tell the media that we are absolutely keeping mayo then an hour later, the trade happens.

With regards to his take on mayo, i think lip can verify that.

The positive with hoiberg is we know he is a big fan of rubio. So i expect him to use rubio well. He was here when we drafted love and im not sure of their relationship but if love respects him then thats a positive as well.

I'd be fine with Fred. But I'd still prefer Stan VanGundy or Hollins because of their track records of success as NBA head coaches. I'd actually be fine with Monty Williams as our next head coach. I think it's going to be Fred, but we'll see. I really hope Flip makes his coaching decision before the draft and even before we start draft workouts. I think it's critical to have our next head coach involved in the draft process from the beginning.

I can't help but read your "next coach" posts a little closer than others, lip, looking for any hints on the inside info you got several months ago. Did you say "I'd be fine with Fred" or "I'll be fine with Fred"? :)

You may be right World. I just thought I remembered a big stink because McHale was lobbying against everyone else for the trade, and then Glen relented late that night after Fred's announcement. It might have been Fred just being upset about making the announcement.

I think it's going to be tough to go back and evaluate what Fred thought at the time. Hoiberg, Flip and McHale all spoke several times at my breakfast club, and I can tell you that Fred is the smartest in the bunch. He plays it very close to the vest, and manages to say a lot of words without really saying anything. Flip and McHale, in contrast, were much easier to read. As a fan, we all enjoy Flip and McHale's style because we learn more, but I think Fred's style of not letting anyone outside the organization know what he really thinks is probably more
effective.

I imagine this eliminates Hoiberg as a candidate. Probably just as well since a rookie head coach may not be the best way to entice Love to stick around...

Always has been unlikely for #Twolves >>> RT @IASTATEAD Coach Hoiberg receives $600K raise. Average salary of $2.6M.

Ok, someone posted about Love's old coach Howland. Coaches D very well. How about him, or has he signed with Marquette?

Thanks Tim. Yep, SVG should be getting a phone call in a couple weeks if he hasn't already.

If it's SVG, there will be a run on old Ron Jeremy videos!

Maybe they gave him a raise because they're worried he's thinking of leaving? Adelman's getting paid $5 mil/year, quite a bit more. Who knows, there are a lot of good options, though.
