Ball handlers and Shot Creators
Ball handlers and Shot Creators
Watching the Warriors-Clippers series underscores the importance of having multiple players who can handle the ball and create off the dribble. The Warriors have three guys like that in their starting lineup - Curry, Thompson and Barnes or Iggy.. The Clippers have Chris Paul and Crawford along with Collison and Redick.

D'Andre Jordan had 25 points, 18 boards and several blocked shots tonight. The Wolves could have drafted him instead of Pekovic in the second round. I recall my own disappointment at the time when he took Pek instead of D'Andre. Who would you rather have now?

Considering the Wolves had TWO high picks in that 2nd round, BOTH.
Re: Ball handlers and Shot Creators
Jordan was considered an under achiever when he first came into the league. I'd like to see Ricky improve as much as Jordan has
Re: Ball handlers and Shot Creators
We certainly didn't deserve to make the playoffs in the Western Conference this year. Memphis and Dallas look far superior to us as a 7th or 8th seed and LA Clippers and GSW are light years a head of us.
Deandre Jordan took a few years to really develop and even if the Wolves had drafted him I doubt he would still be on the roster. His free throw shooting is a huge problem. At least Pek's reliable at the line which is quite rare for a center in this league.
Offense: Pek >> Jordan
Defense: Jordan >> Pek
Rebounding is pretty even, maybe a slight advantage to Jordan.
Overall I think I'd prefer Pek.

Lip, I'm not seeing it. Thompson, Redick, and Barnes are not great dribble-drive slashers/creators. Just look at their free throw and assist numbers. These guys are mostly jump shooters, a lot like Kevin Martin. What separates Thompson and Barnes from Martin is defense.

Re: Ball handlers and Shot Creators
Also, we've had ball handlers and shot creators here that hurt us more than helped us. Michael Beasley was a great shot creator, yet he really didn't help us all that much. Derrick Williams could create his own shot. JJ Barea is excellent at creating shots. The problem is these guys simply weren't that good.
The key is finding someone that is a shot creator and can actually make shots! That's a lot easier said than done!

I'm out here in DC and the local radio guys were thinking Ariza won't be re-signed because they also have to re-sign Gortat and can't afford both. After his series against the Bulls, he would certainly look good in a Wolves uni next season. They also mentioned how they hope nobody else is noticing how good he is and hoping his price stays down! Haha.

Ariza looked overmatched when asked to do more with the ball in his hands in New Orleans. Now, that he's playing with Wall, he can stand around and wait to shoot open jumpers from the corners.
It makes him a lot more efficient.
The only two seasons he's shot above the league norm on three pointers has been when teamed with Wall... who is arguably the league's best drive and kick guy.
