The Bulls are a perfect example

Post by Porckchop »

Of why u dont get rid of an elite player. Sure they hustle , play good defense and all in all play solid team ball. But without Rose they just lack that guy that can put pts on the board in bunches.

I'm trying to understand your point here, PC. If your point is that losing an elite player to injury, like with the Bulls, makes the team worse, I don't think anyone would disagree. But if you're broadening your argument beyond the Bulls to say a team should never trade an elite player, I think the jury is out on that conclusion.

The problem is Love is not a closer. He is not taking over a game down the stretch so how are we any better then the current Bulls even with Love. Rose took over down the stretch. That is why he is special.

The Bulls didn't get any return for Rose because they didn't trade him. They lost him to injury, so this comparison is stupid. What you're comparing it to would be the equivalent of losing Love in FA for nothing. The trade talks at least bring something back. I don't see how this thread is relevant to the Love situation at all considering we haven't let him go in FA yet. The Bulls are actually worse off in their current situation because they can't pay to replace any of Rose's production because he is still under a max deal. At least if Love left we would get max cap space to work with.

Dont over think it. The only point being made is both teams without their elite player means their ceilings only go so high. Not matter what the Wolves may or may not get in return for Love.

The only one overthinking it is you, Porky. This Bulls comparison holds zero weight. The Wolves have three options: keep Love, trade Love and receive a package of assets or let Love go in free agency clearing a large chunk of salary. The Bulls have one option: wait until Rose is healthy.

The Bulls ceiling is capped because they have a max player wearing a suit and tie on their bench. They can't do anything about that but be patient. The Wolves team would have a package of players taking Love's place plus draft picks that needed to be made before its ceiling was known. Two different situations.

If the Bulls traded Rose they would have gotten some very good talent in return as apposed to an empty roster spot. You simply cannot assume that what Chicago would have received would not have been enough to make the current Rose-less roster a contender. The comparison is absurd.

Everybody understands that teams rarely get equal talent in return when trading a superstar, even a non-closer like Love, but It's even rarer that the team gets nothing which is what the Bulls got out of Roses injury.

I think I recall Nate Robinson scoring ALOT of points in bunches in one of their series last year.

Its ironic that before this past season started I brought up the idea of trading Love and whatever else it took to move up in this draft to get a talented wing player cuz I didnt think power forwards impactacted the game enough and I got laughed off this board, now that Love has had his best year people are talking about trading him for parts off contending teams. And now Im thinkin the wolves couldnt get fair value for him.
