2 pretty good centers for 13 1/2 million would be a good thing if we were set everywhere else. But when you have no 2-way SGs on the roster, it becomes a luxury we can't afford.

how many other teams have a 2 way SG?

Who are these magical, attainable 2 way SG's you speak of?

All the best teams have at least one two-way wing player. We have zero.

I counted 0. Some close calls, but seriously lacking.

It depends on your definition. I would define it as someone who is at least serviceable on both sides of the court, or if they are not, have somebody on the starting team who can compensate for them. Based on that definition, I would argue that the top 4 teams in each league are set at SG. No one would describe James Harden as a defensive stopper...far from it...but also nobody would argue that Houston is lacking at SG. And with Howard backing him up, his defensive deficiencies are minimized.

The Wolves on the other hand start a SG who would struggle to defend me, and with Pek getting significant minutes backing him up, his deficiencies on defense are magnified.

Sefolosha is a questionable offensive player, but he has an elite scorer playing next to him, and I would think the Thunder are pleased with his contributions on defense.

I think we are good enough to be a 7-8 seed with Dieng/Pek at C and Martin/? at SG, but that is our ceiling. I need more than that.

Maybe. Maybe we can find our SG in the draft? Who before this year, would of thought we would get a player like Dieng in the draft? What if we can get that SG AND keep Pek and Dieng?

Alex, I think we'd be a good team if we could pick up a SG in the draft who could be an excellent starter in the NBA right away, and kept both Pek and G. Pek,Martin and shabazz could provide a lot of punch off the bench. But I think that's a big if because 13th picks don't often make big contributions as rookies. With Martin still starting, I don't think we improve enough to keep Love.

My dream would be to draft Stauskas and have him be good enough to allow Martin to come off the bench, and also trade pek for Deng. If we also can pick up a serviceable backup PG, either with our MLE or by offering JJ and one of our excess SFs, we become a contender.

Yeah, I don't think we should bank on this 13th pick being a starter. That said, why mess with the starting unit? It's not a perfect 1-5 but I think a good coach could strengthen our bench, find a respectable 2nd unit and compete for a 4-5 seed next year.

I am less worried about our seed if we make the PO's, and more worried about how we fare once we are in. Defense is at a premium, and less fouls seem to be called, which both work against our current roster. Either Flip has to find a way to move Bud, Luc, and JJ to fill our holes (and I don't see that happening), or we need to move Pek, I just don't see how we can compete salary wise with 28 mil tied up in Love and Pek, particularly when Pek is missing a shitload of games. If Gorgui is now starting and playing 35 minutes a night which I expect, there is really no reason to hold onto Pek and the 12 mil.

I know I don't want to stand pat and know 12 months from now that it cost us Love, and I also don't want to be sitting with Pek on the roster if Love leaves. We went through the same thing with KG. He had his friends on the team getting more money than they were worth, and we struggled to put a contender on the court. Flip has to be the bad guy and make the tough decisions whether Love is on board or not, because at the end of next year this team has to have been competitive at the PO level for him to consider staying.

True starting level wings (not even 2 way players) are rare there is no doubt about it. I think there may be a guy the Wolves could pick in the first round that could be one of those guys.
