Is Hood at SF or SG? Where would he be as a SG?

Yeah, sitting behind Adams probably helped LaVine's decision to declare, but I feel like he's just not a fan of Steve Alford. LaVine seems like the kid that wants to get paid right away and begin his NBA career. Adams SHOULD get drafted above him, but with LaVine's freak athleticism and potential, who knows.

Hood's definitely a SF. Good overall offensive game that could translate at either wing position, but determing a player's position comes from who he can defend, in my opinion. Hood's atrocious on defense, would get destroyed every possession guarding NBA SGs. He does have the size for SF, though, so a team might be able to hide his flaws on that end. He just doesn't have that dog in him to get after it on D. Rarely in a good defensive stance, sucks at closing out and has average at best lateral quickness. SF is the only place he could hide on defense.

As a SG on my big board, he'd be No. 6 after Jabari Brown.

How would you grade Smart and Exum as SGs?

If both were considered SGs:

Smart, No. 1

Exum, No. 2

I actually like Hood better defensively at SG, I think SF's these days are just as quick as SG's. Hood's 1 advantage is his height, at SG this would actually be an advantage but at SF it would not, plus Hood is relatively slim. At SF I see Hood having average height, average quickness, and below average strength. At SG he would have above average height, average/below average quickness, and average strength.

I know you have said you didn't see him play much this year, but how much did you really watch Exum (rated 2nd) or Hairston (rated 3rd)? If Zach LaVine is the 5th best SG, and the only thing he showed this year is that he can jump high, Petteway has to be at least 3rd. 18.1 PPG in the Big Ten with defenders draped all over him, an explosive finisher at the rim, and a tossup with Harris as the best defending SG in the draft...with an incredible motor. Really fun guy to watch on both sides of the court. And despite the punch he threw on the court last season, by all accounts a good guy. Here's his writeup on nbadraft.net. http://nbadraft.net/players/terran-petteway

Same overall rating as Harris and Stauskas. Lots of positives, and the only negative is he needs to cut down on his turnovers (2.8 per game). I think turnover reduction happens naturally when he is no longer "the man". You're not alone in leaving him off your draft board (perhaps because he hasn't announced yet), but I can't believe a 6'6" SG who led the Big Ten in scoring and is a relentless defender isn't going to come out.

I guess you can put this one to bed Long -

Wow. good find, sjm. I guess once you've seen Lincoln, Nebraska, it's difficult to imagine being anywhere else. Still, gotta admit I'm stunned that the scoring champ in the best conference wouldn't come out. I did a little more digging, and maybe this quote that didn't get in the article might shed some light on the situation:

Petteway was pressed on why he decided not to enter the draft, and he said "I'm really angry that Camden0916 hasn't been giving me any love. He recently put out his list of best draft picks by position, and I didn't even crack the top ten shooting guards! Can you believe that? Camden is influential with NBA general managers, so once I saw that list, I knew I was dropping out of the first round. So I made two decisions. To return for my junior year, and to track this Camden0916 down!"

This conversation on Petteway made me chuckle. I live in Lincoln and I was sort of a Husker fan but after this last year where I decided I should start going to alot of college games I am now a much bigger fan. I watched Petteway multiple times this year in person. Yeah he ain't coming out. Tim Miles sorta laughed and said he wasn't ready for the NBA and we both know it.

He is an older player and fits Miles style of play about as perfect as you can get. I think he would get some love if he came out this year though beyond the site that was mentioned. I am looking forward to seeing what he does next year. I would honestly be tempted to rate him over Stauskus as an NBA prospect because I think Petteway has more aspects to his game that make him have a chance to be a good 2 way wing player that every NBA team wants. The jury is still out on Petteway though its only 1 year of success, but it was a heck of a year. Personally I think Petteway should have won conference player of the year award over Stauskus, but you can't go wrong with either guy. Even if Petteway plays as well as he did this year he could be a pretty good prospect in the 2015 draft. He is a very fun player to watch. Sometimes he is really exciting and then sometimes you think hey he hasn't done much and then you look up at the scoreboard and he has 10-12 points and there is plenty of time left. He is definitely someone to keep in mind for the 2015 draft. Also he does have too many turnovers, but he also played PG at times for the Huskers last year so keep that in mind.
