Swift, strong punishment doled out by Silver and the NBA...quite impressive. Lifetime ban, and a forced sale if 3/4 of owners vote for it.

So, it looks like the Clippers are going to need new ownership. which leads to a huge opportunity for............US! That's right, let's pool our board resources and buy the Clippers (might have to get a bank involved too :)) . Then we move the franchise to Minneapolis and appeal to get the Laker name back. If the LA Lakers refuse to give up their name, then we call our new franchise The Minneapolis Authentic Lakers. Wow, lifetime ban. Al Sharpton (aka the voice of all black people) can go home now and wait for the next incident.

I think it's also funny how Elgin Baylor sued Sterling for wrongful termination or something to that effect after he was the face of the NBA lottery for what seemed like 10 straight years.

Not defending Sterling, just think a lifetime ban was a bit of an overreaction.

I think the lifetime ban was used to soften the blow for the owners to vote for the sale. He is essentially already out of the NBA so forcing the sale doesn't seem so extreme.

I do wonder what happens when a player is caught on tape making racist remarks. Will the players union push for a lifetime ban? I'll bet not, considering they have taken the players side every time against the NBA and commissioner regardless of the infraction. I still don't understand how words are somehow more important than actions.

I think the NBA overreacted to this whole thing. Lifetime ban? Really? There's people comparing this whole thing to MLK and even Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball... ABSURD!

All those Clippers players that were more than happy to collect Sterling's money over the last however many years. Suddenly they're distraught? I don't buy it.

I don't think he'll end up being forced to sell the team, it's just such a dangerous road for them to go down. In principle ousting an owner based on private comments he made that the public doesn't agree with just seems like a terrible precedent to set.
