We have all the leverage with Ricky since he will be a RFA after next season. But Love is another matter, of which there will be 3 milestones:
Milestone #1: This offseason. Flip needs to hear the words "if we are on the right track, there is a good chance I will re-sign next off season". But if the words are "I am frustrated with our progress - if Adelman is gone I may choose to leave next offseason", well, then Flip needs to look for a trade THIS off-season.
Milestone #2: Next season's trade deadline. If the Wolves are playing well and Love still says the right things, then it will be "steady as she goes" with hopes of re-signing Love next off-season. But if things have gone south (which could happen with Flip in charge and a new coach), then Flip has to seriously consider trading Love mid-season.
Milestone #3: Next off-season. Hopefully the Wolves have had a good run and Love re-signs and everyone is happy. Otherwise, Flip's GM abilities will be put to the test as he pursue's sign & trade possiblities, where he does not have a whole lot of leverage. This also marks the start of an entirely new rebuilding period...
Yup, hard to disagree with these "if/then" scenarios.
The day we see Flip's press conferences discussing the process for a new beginning or "let's build it" or "see what they can do" or "we're not rebuilding, we're transitioning" or whatever else crap, that's the day I walk away for good. It would be nothing but hot air and more empty promises.

Ricky went on to say the team needs to make improvements, because he wants to go to the playoffs, but he would like to stay here as well. Next year critical. Sorry, I don't have a link.
If thats what Ricky said then I would say to him. Worry bout making ur improvements. Your game has more holes than swiss cheese. If he had made even modest improvement to his offensivr game this team would be in the playoffs. A fringe starter shouldnt be making demands.
Lol modest improvements... Yet he set new career averages in multiple categories. Fringe starter? Yet there's plenty of arguments on why he's a top-10 or 15 point guard in the league already. His play isn't the reason we're out of the playoffs. This response from you is just more blind hate.
If a team has a top 5 player in the league, then u have to start looking elsewhere for reasons why the team didnt make the playoffs. The bench hasnt performed but the way u guys speak of Ricky this team should make the playoffs becuz it has two top flight players. Thats all it should take to be an 8 seed. But here this team sits with what u guys are seeing as having three really good players and yet their goin home.
Never have I seen a fanbase rest its hopes on a guy that scores less than 8 more than he does more than 12.

Note that the Mavs are the 8th seed and have Dirk and Monta plus a top-five coach in the NBA. Ricky wasn't the reason we missed the playoffs. I blame our head coach, the bench production and lack of team defense.

Teams make their own luck. U hit the shots down the stretch, u dont miss the bunnies in the closing seconds and u play good defense at all times. The Wolves showed non of those attributes this year. Luck is for losers. Otherwise the Spurs would have more down years.

What does a still good but over the hill Dirk ( who if I compared to Love u guys would laugh at ) and Ellis( who most on here hated the idea of getting a couple years ago) have to do with anything? Their gonna make the playoffs.

Probably the fact that coaching was a huge issue for us if the Mavs made the playoffs and not us.

Imo football is the only sport where coaching plays a large factor in wins and losses. They have a whole week to gameplan and create mismatches and maybe win a game regardless of talent. Basketball is completely reliant on the skill level on the floor to win games. One player can win u games on his own ability. Coaches have to be put in the right situations. Is it really a suprise that Phil has so many rings? Hes coached the most dominant players of their era.
The only anomoly would be the Spurs, and as much as I cant stand Pops smuggness hes one hell of a coach who gets the most out of every player from Timmy on down to the last guy off the bench.
