There was a simple solution this season

Post by BloopOracle »

Giving AJ Price all of JJ's minutes, giving Dieng the backup C minutes, and giving Shabazz Alexi and a bit of Dante and Chase's minutes.

easily an 8 win improvement without even having to make a trade, imagine if we did this 30 games ago

There was no simple solutions to this year. There are a whole host of reasons we aren't as good as we had all hoped, with just plain bad luck also playing a part of it.

I agree there was no simple solution this season. But bad luck is when your best player (Marc Gasol) and best defensive player/starting SG both miss over one-third of your games. Yet, Memphis will likely end up in the playoffs. And for all those who think that Hollins would be a magic bullet for us, I'll note that Hollins is no longer coaching the Grizzlies. They have a better roster than the Wolves. And they have a front office smart enough to deal for Courtney Lee instead of a guy like Luc MM.

AJ Price is a worse version of JJ. If anything AJ should have taken Alexi's minutes. I haven't watched a game in a long while but beyond injuries this team's bench is basically awful and thats why the team has lost games. Dante is the latest guy that pretty solid that getting ripped because he is the best option when he should have to pay so many minutes. I'll admit right now I think I was wrong on JJ he really hasn't been consistent, but he also has been asked sadly once again to be a backup PG AND a scorer and guy that makes things happen. He just isn't that good of a player to have to be doing all that and it shows. I thought this year he woudl be able to playoff guys more, but that hasn't materialized and he hasn't shot the ball well enough to offset some of the other things you may be able to live with if the ball was going through the net at a better rate.

The good news:

JJ can be moved he still has some value and he is in the last year of his contract after this year. I think some teams would still like him as a sparkplug off the bench in the right deal since he is overpaid. I say this is good news becasue I think at this point we know what we have and don't have with JJ although I think he still can be an effective player I think its time to move on if we can. Its a good thing to know what guys you don't want around.

Alexi either sucks and therefore be buried or should be moved to another team. He has been the most disappointing player on the team to me by far. He isn't making much money so he can probably get moved to some team banking that the right system could have the light bulb go off.

Price and Hummell are roster spots we can fill one way or another in the offseason. It won't be hard to upgrade there but of course we seem to suck at doing that. I miss the days of McHale finding random dudes and Flip getting something out of them as coach. Good times.

The good news is there are 4 guys I think we all would be more than happy to move on the roster. That makes it easier to make moves and hopeful something gets done. Its also nice that Dieng and even Shabazz have shown some life as rookies. We need that 1st round pick this year and get lucky to have a guy drop to us that turns out to be good. Sure its wishful thinking but its not that far fetched its happened to other teams before and this happens to be a deep draft.

The bad news is we have 4 guys we want off the roster. LOL
