I'd do the trade if instead of us giving them a first, we swap firsts (they have the Knicks first in this year's draft that is in the top 10 right now and they owe their first or the Knicks first to Orlando pending which one is lower). Then we jump into the top ten in the draft. McGee is overpaid and Pek fits what Shaw would like to do in running a slower pace, so that is where the pick swap evens out the deal. Wilson Chandler would be the kind of solid two-way starting 3 that would fit great with the starting unit. He's only giving up a 12.2 PER to opposing 3's and he is a better 3 point shooter than Corey overall. I'd ditch Arthur all-together as the salaries pretty much match with a Pek/Brewer for McGee/Chandler. They get the 1st and 3rd best players in the trade and we get the better pick in the draft. In Javale's last season that he played over 21 MPG's, he averaged 12 points, 9 boards and 2.5 blocks per game. That's exactly what we need from the starting C next to Love.

So we get a defensive C whose length fits much better next to Love, a two-way starting SF and a top 10 pick in a loaded draft. I think that is pretty fair value for a top 10 starting C who also can't stay healthy, an energy guy off the bench who has played decent in starters minutes and a later lottery pick. McGee also comes off the books two years sooner than Pek so we save long-term salary. We have to take a risk somewhere to get better. We're not just a bench tweak away from being a contender. Everyone (including myself) uses Portland as an example and they have dropped all the way down to the 5 seed and aren't in contender status anymore.

I think at the very least that team has more balance and defensive potential than the one we have now. The starting lineup's problem isn't the ability to score. As long as Love and Martin are on the floor, they can score just fine. The problem is they can't stop anyone and this would hopefully help in that department.
