Why we shouldn't trade Chase Budinger
I believe Chase is like a beaten down value stock that we need to hold onto, not sell at a bargain basement price just to relieve the logjam of mediocrity at SF. He's still young and recovering from knee issues and I would like to have him in camp next season. He also has the potential to be a very good 3-pt shooter, something we desperately need.

Q,
I have to respectfully disagree. At no point in Chase's career has he been worth $5M per. And with the knee injury, he has absolutely no chance to get there. And I have brought this up a few times, but Chase is really a mediocre at best 3 pt shooter. He has somehow gotten an undeserved reputation as a great 3 pt shooter, but his stats show him out to be extremely average. If you can drop him for cap space, you do it, plain and simple.

I agree Q, but if he gets it going to begin the season in 2014, I'd deal him at the deadline. Always want to sell as high as you can. I can deal with having Brewer at $4M, but Bud at $5M hurts my head knowing he just blocks Shabazz from making an impact.

Re: Why we shouldn't trade Chase Budinger
I've seen too many guys over the years start their career as solid, but somewhat inconsistent 3-point shooters (like Chase), and then eventually find their groove from beyond the arc after a few years. He's shown enough potential as a shooter that I think he eventually becomes more consistent. Also, he does do other things well. He's always been a good cutter and rebounder too as a wing.
The problem is that ALL of our small forwards are not worth what they're paid. But between Chase, Shabazz (I know, it's still early), Brewer, and Mbah Moute, who do you think yields the best return? I don't think it's Chase and I'm not interested in taking someone who, when healthy, might be the best of that bunch and trading him as a salary dump.

Q, we need to dump both Chase and Luc. They are both drastically over paid for what they provide. Chase isn't going to get any better health wise. He didn't have an ACL or MF repair, it was taking out his meniscus. I found it humorous that JimPete talked about Luc focusing on his jumper in the off season. Isnt' that something you should have been doing 3 years ago??
Re: Why we shouldn't trade Chase Budinger
Im on the fence with chase. On one hand, i love the trade for him last season. He was my pick for breakout player of the team and he had a solid pre season and first 5 games. Then his injury happen. He didnt just have surgery once, but twice and miss camp. I
If he can stay healthy and get back to where he was when we got him, then yeah i would like to keep him and believe he can be a quality rotation guy. But that is whats tricky about injuries, you never know if a player can recover unless you give him time( at least a full season with training camp). Unfortunally, we dont have much time as a team. Were mssing out on the playoffs again and we need to make moves this off season to upgrade the wing postion and make that playoff push next season building around love and rubio. Chase may be needed to be packaged in a trade to get deals done.

Hmm.. I like both Bud and Luc. A new coach that demands sound defense is what we need more than anything else.

Re: Why we shouldn't trade Chase Budinger
If someone actually wants to trade us something decent for a 3pt specialist who's career average is 35%, is coming off of an injury, has shown no signs of being healthy and will be getting $5 million the next couple years I'd trade him. If he needs to be thrown in to make salaries work I'd also trade him.
Otherwise I see no point in trading him, as Q essentially said he's currently so useless he can only improve from here. It's also not worth giving up a pick to dump him. I'm not a cap expert but if I'm looking at it correctly we'd still be over the cap even without him so it's not like we'd really be able to use the savings to sign someone anyway.

Well said, Rage. I agree with you completely.
Re: Why we shouldn't trade Chase Budinger
But I thought the only time this franchise traded players is when they have lost all their value. This means we have to trade him now so we can get nothing back in return. Maybe we can even rid ourselves of another useless 1st round draft pick.
