One reason Dieng > Pek

Post by Porckchop »

The bunnies that Pek misses around the rim on a consistent basis are dunks for Dieng. When someone comes in the lane Dieng believes he can block every shot, If Pek were wearing a shoe two sizes to big they wouldnt leave the floor when he jumped.
Trade Pek while he has some value. Maybe Pek and the 13 the pick to move up in a talented draft. Skilled wings trump a skilled unathletic center every time.

Pek is inflating his trade value and you have to at least think about it this off-season, but no way would I use him just to move up in the draft. We have one last shot with love we need to get proven players with trades and just stay the course with wherever our pick ends up.

Dieng, Turiaf, and a young skilled sf/sg looks better to me than Pek, Dieng and another 30 something past his prime vet sg/sf. IMO

I would take the third option of Dieng, Turiaf and a proven wing if anything.

I agree that Dieng has much better hops than Pek, but I'm not ready to say Dieng is better than Pek. But I will say this:

1) Dieng is better then Pek was as a rookie at the same age
2) Dieng is showing enough consistency that we can afford to use Pek to bring back a player that we really need.

I'm with bloop, though, on how to use Pek...he's too good to just get us a better draft pick. Plus, there are several really good SGs that should be available at 13. Pek should be traded for a good 2-way wing, or should be kept as part of a big man rotation...I would prefer the former.

Havent we tried that this year with Kevin Martin? Whos gonna be out there thats better and at a price the Wolves can afford?
The draft is the best route to get not only skill, but to vastly improve the athleticism this team sorely lacks.
The wolves have the most creative passer in the league and I have no doubt this team gets the least amount of above the rim plays( alley oops etc.)

Alley oops arent that important, but it does speak to the biggest issue. Scoring inside shouldnt be completely reliant on the bigs. Having athletes that can take their man one on one and posterize them every once in a while gives the opposing defense one more thing to account for. It also opens up the perimeter for everyone else.
