I do see him as a very good offensive coach. When we are executing his offense like we should, it is really fun to watch this team score. But he has never been an effective defensive coach, and in the long run that could doom us to a lower playoff status.
But my biggest problem is that he just looks tired to me out there. I recognize that he has never been a rah rah type guy, but he looks more this year like his ship has sailed. I don't think the medical problems with his wife can be ignored, and that is clearly a priority for him the last year...as it should be.
I look to the Phoenix Suns as an example of what this team could be with a younger, more aggressive coach. I hope we let Rick finish the year and a one and out playoff run, and then bring in a guy who can inspire this team to get to the next level.
My thoughts exactly. I look at Lenny Wilkens (or to a lesser extent Don Nelson) at the end of his very effective career. The generations change and often the older coaches lose the fire. I really think this coupled with the new culture that is in the NBA is rendering Adelman less effective than he was at one time.

Your wrong Adelman is just as effective as he has always been, he can put a good offense into play, sucks at substitutions and sucks at taking advantage of match-ups. He's good enough to make you a winner but will never take you to the top, that's Adelman in a nutshell always has been always well be above average. Yet frustrating the shit out of you for his deficiencies.
Who are the players who Adelman has groomed way beyond what was reasonably expected of them? I can't see many. I am not sure what you are trying to get people to accept. Peja and Kmart both got their chance with Adelman because of injuries. The NBA is changing from his time of having 4 year college players turn into savy vets on the Blazers. More energy has to go into teaching in the NBA today. Just reality. I don't think Adelman takes this reality seriously.
Anybody else tired of seeing him piss and moan all game long to the officials? All coaches work the refs to some extent, but i bet his arms go up in the air 20 -25 times per game. It's just too much in my opinion.

Do you typically watch the Minnesota broadcast? They show shots of Adelman much more than they do the other coaches. I don't think he works the refs any more than those other coaches (not named Rambis).
Adelman tonight: "You lose a game like that, you learn from it, you certainly learn from it," said Wolves coach Rick Adelman.
What did we learn tonight? Anything new? Against a decent bench our looks like scrubs. We would like to not play Love 24 mins in the second half, but I have to. I don't see what Adelman is bringing to this team that any coach couldn't at this point. There are plenty of coaches who could have gotten us to a game below 500 this year.

How can these games be learning experiences when he's clearly unwilling to teach?
"I know I'm a rookie," Muhammad said. "(Rick) Adelman is a hall of fame coach. He likes his veterans a lot, so its something that plays to mind. He tells me, and it's just something that I abide by."
So Adelman straight up tells rookies he prefers vets. If how are we ever going to build a small market high caliber team with a coach that wants vets. We will only ever lure overpaid 2nd tier vets if that is the philosophy. Adelman is a hall of fame coach just like Bazz says, but he personnel preferences wont work in this market.
We can't even blame Adelman for this Doper. It ultimately falls on Flip, and Kahn before him, to instruct the coach how to manage the roster. You are right in that the current system just won't work long term.

I doubt Adelman would have stayed or came in the first place if Kahn tried that. I am not really blaming Adelman. It is more like you say, the system is not set up to work. I think Adelman would have been great coach for a team of veterans needing a system (Brooklyn?) If Adelman is on his way out are we going to send him off with a first round exit? My overall feeling is that we are just stalling as a franchise and Adelman is part of that. If we keep stalling there is nothing to keep Love at all interested in staying. A shakeup may push Love out, but I think we need to shoot for the fences now. If we want to buy into Adelman's ideology completely, then go for it and get Joe Johnson (or some other second tier vet) at the trade deadline and completely mortgage the future so Adelman has no excuses of lacking veteran personnel. This in between crap sucks, because we will never develop anyone but we don't have the veteran horses as an alternative. Right now Love and Pek are playing awesome in Adelman's system and we are below 500. If we keep our roster as is we can only get worse as the years go on (aging Martin, Pek Barea, etc.) That scares me.
