I am not sure how Dieng didn't win his matchup. He was slightly more efficient offensively, and had more rebs, neither got any blocks, each had a steal and Gasol had two more assists. That looks like a wash at best for Gasol and Dieng is a rookie with almost no floor time. Take away a couple of the questionable fouls on Dieng and he looks even better. Gorgui's fourth foul was an absolute joke of a call. He had position and the only contact I saw was Gasol lowering his shoulder into Gorgui. On the other hand, Pek can't win a matchup if he doesn't get on the floor.

Deing got a lot in garbage time. Also Gasol played like 15 minutes less then Deing.

Dieng was 2/4 for 4pts and 2 rebs in the 4th quarter, and played 10 minutes more than Gasol, so not so much!

Where was Pek again????

Did you watch the game? Gasol pretty much did whatever he wanted to against Deing. Yes Pek was injured. If I had to pick one or the other to match up with Gasol it would be Pek 10/10. He's a better man defender then Deing at this point simply because of his size.

Pek is injury prone as most centers. You can trade Pek because of it and have Deing turn out to be just as injury prone. Keep both

I have to side with alex on this one...Memphis won the center battle last night. Dieng's lack of strength allowed the Grizzlies' bigs to maintain strong board position, and led to a 54-42 rebound advantage. Against a physical team like Memphis, it would be nice to have either Pek or Turiaf available to bang with them.

That said, the rookie put up solid numbers again and is really impressing. His athleticism advantage over Pek/Turiaf is clear, and that allows him to get points and rebounds despite the bulk disadvantage. He also shows a feel for the game that our other centers don't have...case in point, the beautiful assist to a cutting Love. Yes, he's not ready yet to play even with the Gasols in the league, but I still think he can be a good starting center for us, which allows us to offer up Pek so we can address other more glaring needs.

How much weight do we think Dieng could put on?

To keep Love, you just need a spark to get this team to the playoffs, not a complete rebuild. People don't like the Love-Pek duo because they can't protect the rim. Now it looks like we have that guy in Deing. They'll be bad match ups for Deing and Pek, and Pek and Love and even Deing will miss games so you can afford all 3 why not keep all three?

If Deing continues to improve like he has he'll get plenty of minutes and who would have a better front court then Pek-Love-Deing?

You still have Rubio who is still improving. The wings are a problem but every team has a hole. Let's fix our problems without hindering our strengths. No team will ever have the perfect roster

Long we lost the rebounding battle because our third big is DC who accounted for 2 rebs. He is just too small to be effective against other bigs. His opponent accounted for 7 rebs in less minutes.

Alex, I guess I don't understand the "did what he wanted to" part. Gasol wanted to shoot inefficiently against a rookie?

Alex, you seem to be taking this personal, or thinking this is somehow a slam on Pek. It is anything but that. Some of us realize that paying 12 mil for the small difference between Pek and Dieng is a waste of our resources. That money would be better utilized on a difference making wing, which we don't have. It isn't about having a perfect roster, but it is about having a player that can close out games for us.

Flip blew our load last summer and now we have almost zero assets to improve. Pek is one of the assets we do have, and if we can replace what he gives us (or even close to it) as a whole, then his salary is better spent somewhere else.

Well you seem to be the only one who didn't come to the same conclusion of Gasol vs Deing
