BLEEDS OFFSEASON
Assets:
Off-Season Trade Ideas:
- Minnesota trades J.J. Barea and Budinger for to the Bucks for OJ Mayo. Mayo was a disaster for the Bucks and we would help them get out of the contract. I think Mayo, Shabazz, and Love would click.
Salary Cap:
-Will just have MLE - won't use it unless perfect 2 way player is available.
NBA Draft
- "With the 13th pick in the 2014 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select... Kyle Anderson, guard, UCLA" He becomes the second guy off the bench for Shabazz and Rubio and Love. Long jack of all trades player for us.
- In the second round, there will be plenty of guards with promise to choose from. Players that I have interest in are: Jordan Adams of UCLA would be my pick. Young scorer that is tough. We don't have any guards like this.
Free Agency:
-Jimmer Fredette for vet minimum. He would provide shooting next to Rubio or Anderson.
-Trevor Booker for vet minimum - Adds some that is physically tough to the bench.
-Aaron Brooks for vet minimum
Final Roster:
PG: Rubio, Brooks, Shved
SG: Mayo, Martin, Adams, Fredette
SF: Muhammad, Brewer
PF: Love, Booker
C: Pekovic, Dieng, Turiaf
*Anderson would backup Rubio, Muhammad, and Love in most situations
Coach would be Hoiberg

Re: Cam's Off-Season Breakdown
Why anyone is wasting their time considering Hoiberg as an option as coach of an NBA team boggles my mind and I think people don't really understand the situtation. The guy is in the perfect situation where it becomes clear that a college coaching job can be better than and NBA coaching job. Hoiberg literally lives at home and his whole extended family can hang out together whenever they want. He gets to lead his favorite school growing up and playing for to national prominence. He is going to get paid plenty of money and here is the deal. He can win 20+ games for the next 30 or whatever years have job security, have a great time, become a college coaching legend and the NBA? oh sure he could go there and get fired after a season or 2 or 3 go back to college be an assisting in the league try again rinse and repeat. Sure its possible he is successful in teh NBA but for how long with one team? Hoiberg knows all this since he was an NBA executive and its only been worse since he left. No way Hoiberg leaves. Look elsewhere. If Adelman leaves one way or another there are some really nice option right now that I would say are far from retreads.
Also Mayo sucks I don't know why anyone spends time figuring out how to get him. What has he done over an entire season in the last 4 years to make anyone think he can be a significant part of a winning team? Nothing and his season with the Bucks (he once again lost his starting spot to a lesser player) has cemented that in my mind he is a bench player at best. People want to get rid of JJ but I don't see any real difference in impact between the 2 guys and I don't have a problem moving JJ. If you want to get rid of someone Shved has been the most worthless guy to get any type of minutes on this team this season.

TheFuture wrote:I respect your opinion, and I hope you will respect mine. Stauskas is great, but he would not fit well on this team. We have enough one way players. Stauskas will not be able to defend at the pro level. Yes, he can shoot the lights out, but I highly doubt he will finish at the rim effectively in the NBA. We need a very athletic player at the 2 or 3 position. Someone who can play AT LEAST adequate on-ball defense, shoot a 3, ball handle, and drive. Yes, it is difficult to find a player at pick #13 who can do that, but that is what we need. Can you imagine having Barea, Budinger, Martin, Stauskas, Shved on this team next year playing the 2/3 positions? I will not even be able to watch. If you decide to play a Love and Pekovic as your PF/C, then you need to surround them with above average on-ball defenders at the 1,2,3 positions. We have only one in Rubio, possibly 2 in Brewer when he decides to hustle and play D rather then awaiting and jumping early on a potential cherry pick. I'd rather look at P.J. Hairston, Zach Lavine, or T.J. Warren and get an athlete on the floor. One who can defend, shoot a 3, and drive. It'd be nice to see a true athlete on our team to take advantage of Rubio's passing abilities. Let's see some alley oops, and a nice 1-2 punch on the defensive end from both guard positions.
I should also add that I think Barea, Martin, Budinger, and Pekovic need to be moved this offseason. A lot of people think LRMAM needs to go, but if we do make the playoffs next year, he will be the one taking on the Durants, Hardens, etc. And I he will do very well at that, as his foot work is impeccable. He is a strong piece for a winning team. He just doesn't fit here because we expect him to do things he shouldn't be asked to do, like score. He is a defensive stopper. Nothing more ... always has been, always will be.
Thanks for the reply and your opinion will be respected. Here's what I disagree with, though. I don't think Stauskas is as much of a one-way player as it's being advertised. He's no defensive stopper, but he does stay in front of his man and is smart enough to force tough shots. Also recognizes when to help and when to stay at home. He's a smart defender, but certainly no Oladipo of last year. I get that. He also has short arms and that will limit how effective he can be in the passing lanes and his contests of shots.
With Stauskas, though, he's going to be so damn good on offense that he'll be a positive player. He's not just a shooter like people continue to claim. He's a sneaky driver and he's very good at setting up teammates. Not a ballhog at all and that would fit perfectly with the guys we currently have. Rubio and Love need the ball in their hands. Stauskas is effective on and off ball and when Rubio's off the floor, Stauskas is capable of running an offense I believe.
I think too many on this board are focused on bringing in two-way players that they are overlooking a great player. Stauskas is going to thrive in the NBA. I fully believe that. If he's available at our draft spot and we pass on him, we can add him to the list of Curry, Cousins, George and Parsons as players MIN overlooked.

I like Anderson, but I don't know why you continue to think he can play backup PG/PF. His skillset at SF is unique to say the least, but no NBA coach would actually use him at those positions because he'd be destroyed on defense. Lack of foot speed guarding point guards and lack of strength/size guarding power forwards. That's fine, though, because he is a small forward. It's just wrong to think of him as Magic Johnson practically.
Fredette, Brooks are redundant. One of them would be fine, no need for both.

Whenever you can trade for the most expensive guy on the worst team in the NBA, it's gotta be considered a victory

Re: Cam's Off-Season Breakdown
Alex - Mayo needs the right environment. The guy has never been on a really bad team before this. He has proven he can play in the past. I think with the right coach surrounded by this roster he would be a perfect fit.
Cam - Brooks is a PG. Fredette is a SG with some PG to his game. I like the idea of having more shooting and toughness coming off the bench. As for Anderson. I think it is all about match ups. He is not going to be guarding any PG's. I would have someone like Brewer draw that duty if he is playing PG. I think Shabazz could hold his own against a lot of backup PF's if needed. The big things is Anderson is so long. He has the same standing reach as Anthony Davis.

Re: Cam's Off-Season Breakdown
Kiwi: I don't see why Phoenix or Milwaukee does either of those deals, especially the MIL one. We give them a player they dealt just a summer ago and an injured Budinger for a bad contract and a young up-and-coming PF. Henson's really the reason I don't see that one getting done actually. For PHO it just doesn't make sense to give up on Green after getting this type of year out of him.
Re: Cam's Off-Season Breakdown
Cam,
The Phoenix one is a bit ho hum I guess, maybe I'm being a bit of a homer. Martin for Green is pretty even in terms of production. People forget that 6.5 mil a year for a 20ppg scorer is actually pretty good value. Barea for Frye is a wash - both being expiring contracts in 2015. I would love to have Green back in a Wolves uniform. He is a great fit next to Rubio and Love and would give us an explosive wing scorer. Frye gives us another big who can spread the floor and would be a definite upgrade of Cunningham.
OJ Mayo has a bad contract, and paying a guy 8 million to ride the pine like he is in Milwaukee makes it all the worse. We would be taking on that contract, hence it gives us a bit of leverage. Milwaukee also had rumoured interest in signing Bud this off season. Taking back LMAM isn't a bad thing, sure he's overpaid but he made a name for himself with the Bucks and was well liked with in the organisation from what I've heard. Henson is probably the best player in the deal, but they have a very similar player by the name of Larry Sanders who plays the same position. Playing for a bad team can inflate numbers as well.

Volans Offseason Plan
Trade ideas:
JJ and Moute to the Magic for Jameer Nelson
I think that this is a deal the Magic would make because they get rid of Nelson's 8.6 mil contract and they get back Barea's expiring and get Moute to help mentor their young SF's in the art of defense (ok maybe that last bit doesn't make a whole lot of sense)
Draft
Pick the best available SG or PF
OR
Bundle the 13th pick with Pekovic and Budinger for a starting caliber wing, i.e. Deng, Derozan, Batum
or use Pekovic and the 13 to move up in the top 7 but Budinger has to be moved with him, I don't think you can move him by himself without taking on a worse contract
Free Agency
Full MLE for Andray Blatche (biggest headache player in the league if you ask me, but he is damn good when he is on).
or
Cheap offers for players like Ben Gordon, Elton Brand, Chris Kaman (only if we trade Pek), Hinrich, maybe throw an offer to Fredette if the price is right, I wouldn't give him more than 2 mil a year.
Ideal Lineup
Rubio/ Nelson/ Shved
Martin/ Rookie
Brewer/ Bazz/ Budinger
Love/ Blatche
Pek/ Dieng/ Turiaf
