What do you think is the biggest thing holding us back?
Please elaborate on your vote. And in your explanation, try to rank them from what you think is our biggest problem (1) to the smallest problem (4 or 5).
I like that other poll about our bigs and don't want to overlap too much, but I think this could lead to a slightly different conversation.
What's our biggest problem?

I guess "Player Fit" since the team is playing two players $77M next season and $94M the following season who play the same position... but haven't shown to be very good offensively or defensively when sharing the court together.

I voted number 3. The Wolves as a franchise have essentially been the worst NBA franchise since KG left. Years of tanking for that guy has taken it's toll. Not winning a playoff series in 20 years. Guys like KAT who suffered through years of losing on purpose are mentally broken a bit. Losing wasn't a bad thing, it was accepted and encouraged. That is why I want him gone so we can simply turn the page and end the era so to speak.
KAT is certainly responsible as well for not being that guy too. So I'm not giving him a pass either. He possibly could have become as good as Jokic and he never advanced his game. KAT is not much different as he was 8 years ago as a player. That is on both him and the franchise.
The good news is we got that guy in Ant. So we need to find guys who will play hard, smart and aggressive defense. Become a top 5 defensive team every year and you will be a top contender.

I do think they could very well build a top 5 or 6 defense if they get rid of KAT, keep Gobert, and re-sign NAW. Offense will be a problem though unless we find some gem of a backup PG that can even share starting duties with Conley. That is a tall task.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 1:46 pm I voted number 3. The Wolves as a franchise have essentially been the worst NBA franchise since KG left. Is nobody going to mention the Indian burial ground Target Center is built on top of?

It's sad that JMac post injury is a shell of his former self. He use to dunk on guys (well at least dunk) and now he looks hobbled in comparison, getting his shot swatted over and over. Him getting injured was a big deal actually for our season. We need a quality backup PG for sure.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:38 pmI do think they could very well build a top 5 or 6 defense if they get rid of KAT, keep Gobert, and re-sign NAW. Re: What's our biggest problem?
I picked “Player mentality/personality/team culture”
You need to develop and breed a winning culture, which this team has failed to do post KG. It starts with front office and works it way through to the players
The most important off-season move behind resigning Naz is getting this team a good sports psychologist. If the Slo Mo - Gobert altercation and McDaniels wall punch didn’t scream “this team needs a sports psychologist” then I don’t know what does.
“Sport psychology” is an area of psychology which focuses on essential mental skills that complement the tactical and technical skills of sport to improve performance.

I voted Talent. Talent almost always wins. We saw that in the Butler season. Not everyone has to get along. Just put really good players on the floor and let them figure it out. You need a top dog. KG, Butler etc. We've had too many second fiddles i.e. KAT, Love that are good, but a notch below the guys that can carry you on their back.
Re: What's our biggest problem?
I am the "other" vote here, because I think the Wolves' biggest problem last year was KAT's injury, and then the multiple injuries for the playoffs. I liked our roster coming into the season (as almost everyone here did if you look at the wins prediction thread), and I was only concerned about our PG...I just didn't think DLo was the right guy for this team, but I still thought we could be pretty good. But then we made the big trade, and I was confident this roster could be very good if they could stay healthy. And although 9 games is not enough of a sample size to evaluate Rudy/KAT/Jaden/Ant/Conley, the results at least supported my confidence...6-3 against a tough schedule got me optimistic about the postseason. But then...Naz got hurt, and so dd Jaden. Finally, SloMo got hurt. Without 3 of our top 8 players, we didn't have much of a chance.
So I see injuries as clearly our biggest problem last year...KAT's injury hurt our playoff positioning, and the other three injuries torpedoed our postseason.
Our biggest problem going forward? If our goal is to win the West and compete for a championship, I don't think we are as talented as the Suns. But again, let's see who can stay healthy next season.

I also said other. Wolves playoff starting lineup played 7 possessions together in the regular season.FNG wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:12 pm I am the "other" vote here, because I think the Wolves' biggest problem last year was KAT's injury, and then the multiple injuries for the playoffs. Who knows if it will work but I do think playing together for a period of time can’t hurt
