Worst Officiated Games Ever

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

#1 - May 31, 2002

Lakers 106, Kings 102

#2 - May 17, 1987

Celtics 119, Bucks 113

The two biggest David Stern specials I've ever witnessed. If you can't remember them or were too young, watch the 4th quarters of each game.

Anybody else have a game that sticks out?

Cool - That Lakers/Kings game takes the cake in my view. That game is featured in the Donaghy documentary I mentioned. The concerted effort of the officials to dictate the result of that game is undeniable.

2006 Super Bowl was worst officiating job of any major sports game I've ever witnessed. Seahawks were screwed by the refs over and over.

There are a few well-publicized poorly officiated games many of us have seen.

But there's an underrated one that makes the list for me... Game 6 of the 2012 WCF Finals (SAS vs. OKC).

San Antonio was on an amazing run that season. They'd won 20 straight games (and 31 of 33) entering the series. They were up 2 - 0 vs. the upstart Thunder before losing 3 straight games (including one game where Ibaka shot 11 -11 fg).

Game 6:

The Spurs take a 13-point halftime lead. And then all hell breaks loose in the 2nd half.

- We get early James Harden flopping all over the place.
- We get early Kevin Durant superstar treatment (13 FTA in the 2nd half)
- The Thunder took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter, getting nine of their first 13 points on free throws as the fouls started to pile up for San Antonio — six on the defensive end and three on the offensive end in the first 7 minutes (each one negating a Spurs bucket)
- A technical after a Stephen Jackson three pointer for looking at the Thunder bench (AFTER the entire Thunder coaching staff stood up and screamed and stomped at him while shooting the shot.)
- There were questionable calls all over that 2nd half. And they all seemed to go against the Spurs. The Thunder came back to win the game and series.

I had no dog in that fight... and yet I remember specific calls from that game 11+ years later.
