Dane Moore with guests on Scoot. Good conversation. I don't see KAT getting better. His numbers have been trending in the opposite direction and the two times he finally got back to the playoffs he was more or less a no show. On top of all of that he has a huge contract coming. If we could come out of it with Simons, Scoot and some picks Id be on board. Im not so sure Scoot drops to 3 though, so we could be looking at Garland all over again.

Trading KAT to get Scoot at #3 and watching Charlotte take him at #2 would be malfeasance by our front office. That would be two seasons in a row of malfeasance. I was looking at possible Gobert deals and realized that we’d be lucky to get one first round pick and dead-weight salary for him. When you consider what TC gave up for Rudy, I’m thinking that TC should be fired even though I’ve advocated against firing him since the trade.

If the Wolves want to trade KAT for Scoot, they had better do the deal with Charlotte or wait until after Charlotte picks before making the deal with Portland. I still think we’re better off trading Rudy for Portland’s #23 pick, Charlotte’s #27 pick, Indiana’s #26 pick, Houston’s #20 pick or Orlando’s #11 pick.

I could see Portland having an interest in Rudy as an upgrade over Nurkic while still being able to keep or trade their #3 pick. I could see Charlotte having an interest in Rudy to enhance their chances of competing next season while still being able to draft a star of the future to develop alongside LaMello. We’ve all seen reports that the Rockets want to make a big jump next season so I could see them willing to part with their #20 pick for Rudy and using their #4 pick for an all-star caliber veteran. Orlando might be ready to make a big jump next season. Banchero is a two-way scoring PF. He might fit well next to Rudy, who would upgrade their interior defense. They’d still have the #6 pick to use on a pick or to trade for an all-star caliber vet. I think Rudy deals for a first round pick and maybe one or two more future picks are out there. That’s what the Wolves front office should focus on in my view.

You're banking on a team to be as dumb as Tim Connelly was last summer and think Rudy puts them over the top. Gobert and Dame maybe gets them to the play-in. Same with Charlotte, especially if Jordan's gonna sell the team. He's probably not gonna do anything crazy until the team is fully sold.

Rudy and KAT unfortunately for this team have really bad perceptions which hurt their value as much as their health, performance and contracts do. When Connelly traded for Rudy, he thought it would be a move that energized the fanbase. Reaction was mixed off the bat. Now, I don't think a fanbase is gonna be energized by acquiring Rudy unless it was for someone else they hated that much more.

No I’m not banking on a team being as dumb as TC was last summer - not even close. The Wolves gave up three rotation players (2 of them starters) on a 46-win team AND their 20th pick in last year’s draft, AND four future unprotected 1st round picks, AND a 2026 pick swap. I’m just suggesting one pick in the 20s in this year’s draft, one-year matching salary fodder (e.g., Hayward) and MAYBE one future lottery-protected 1st or a couple future 2nds. My suggested trades don’t bank on a team thinking Rudy will put them over the top. To the contrary, my suggested trades leave teams with their high lottery picks to get a true all-star (not Rudy) who when combined with Rudy and other talent can catapult them from the lottery to the playoffs. If the Wolves can’t get what I’m suggesting in exchange for Rudy then everyone on get his board and around the State should be calling for TC’s immediate termination.

I haven't seen Detroit mentioned as a potential trade partner for KAT, but there is potential there.

Would this interest anyone:

DET Receives:
KAT

MIN Receives:
Bojan Bogdanovic
Isaiah Stewart
Jaden Ivey
#5 overall pick
2026 1st unprotected
2028 1st top 3 protected
2025 2nd round
2027 2nd round
2029 2nd round

DET adds KAT to Cade and Duren, with 30mil+ in cap to build around them.

MIN adds a couple young talents in Ivey and Stewart, a veteran in Bojan who will hit threes, future picks, slight cap relief this year to help re-sign NAW and Reid, and the #5 overall this season to draft one of the following - Amen Thompson, Anthony Black, Cason Wallace, Jarace Walker, Ausar Thompson, Taylor Hendricks.

Conley/Ivey
Edwards/NAW
McDaniels/Prince
Bojan/Anderson
Gobert/Reid/Stewart

I’d make that trade if I were TC.

Would you if you were Detroit? Probably the more important question.

Hypothetically, who would you target at #5 if that trade went through?

Honestly, I wouldn’t make the trade if I were Detroit. If we did that deal, I might target one of the Thompson twins. Otherwise, I might trade down for future picks and a lower pick I’d use to take the Polish kid from Santa Clara.

Didn’t know where to put this but some all time quotes from Kat today on the Pat Bev pod. I had to turn it off because Kat is so cringey. (Does not take away Kat talent on the court)

- Wolves winning the play in was more impressive than the Nuggets winning the title

-“When my time is up and I retire… there will be people that say I changed the game.”

- "The rumors are as true or as false as Minnesota makes them to be."

-Pat Bev called Kat the best big in the league and Kat agreed.

I cringed at all those comments by KAT. He just can’t help himself. It’s not terrible. He’s not making bigoted or inappropriate remarks, he’s not hanging with porn stars or at strip clubs and he’s not waving a gun around at clubs or on camera. But he just says some of the dumbest things and expresses in the most awkward ways. The Pat Bev comment was hilarious. It was just Pat being Pat and it didn’t bother me. But seeing KAT agree left me dumbfounded.

As you said, none of this takes away from his all-star caliber play on the court. And as I noted, it doesn’t make him a bad guy. Honestly, he’s the third best center in the League behind Jokic and Embiid. He could be the third best big depending on how you define a “big” in the NBA. But the things KAT says just makes you wonder if he has any self-awareness.
