He's finally up and Vargas sent back down. I love Vargas but man he really needs to work on his plate discipline. You could kind of see this move coming there trying to put a jolt in this team and Sano in last month is batting .333 with 6 bombs and 8 doubles and most important only 18 strike outs to 13 walks. Also Santana is coming back soon who is going to be the odd guy out? Milone? Or May? Pelfrey, Hughes, Gibby have all earned there spots but even how wild May last start was he has been pretty consistent.

I'm staying home tonight to watch his debut, jester. He's been really good the past two months in AA, and is by all reports much more ready to hit in the majors than Buxton. I also loved Vargas, but he just couldn't figure out the breaking stuff. Sano may struggle with the off-speed stuff for awhile too, but it's heartening that he has cut down his K rate recently.

Too much starting pitching is a nice problem to have, isn't it? And Berrios is now at AAA and close to being ready. We may never have to see Nolasco again. Even though Mollie doesn't seem to be on board yet, I think they will use a 6-man rotation until either someone gets hurt or someone pitches himself out of the rotation. May has really surprised me with how good he has been, and his wildness last start was all about freaking out with Hamilton on base...he deserves to stay in the rotation.

Nice...you get Santana's first start too. Get us a sweep, and we'll be just a half game out as you head back north!

Despite the 2 strike outs, I was encouraged by what I saw from Sano last night. He has better plate discipline than I would have expected, and isn't reluctant to jump on that first pitch. Plus, he looks like a guy that will keep everyone loose in the dugout...another Escobar type, just in a larger size! Now, if they could just find him a position.

It will be great to get Buxton back too. He's not as ready as Sano to hit major league pitching, but his defense will help and his speed is a game changer. Watching Hamilton in Cincy showed the impact speed can have on a game. May was a mess whenever he was on base.

How did Sano look?

Sano is a huge man up close but he's sneaky athletic big man. He has some of the smoothies hands through the zone if seen in a long time. He kind of reminds of Vladimir Guerrero that you need to watch every time this man swings a bat because of the ferocity in his swing.

As for my recap for the game, thought tommy pitched great he had a really good curve ball tonight. Kendrys Morales is becoming my new most hated player. I actually thought Molly cost us a game tonight. How do you pitch Morales in the 8th with an open base? Just give him the old unintentionally intentional walk. I know Gordon was up next but Alex I believe was 0-3 with 2ks going into that ab. Thompson wasn't even warmed up to face Gordon either. I just don't know why Fien didn't pitch the 7th and Boyer the 8th made no sense to me.

I have to say I'm really getting tired of Suzuki his pass ball really bothered me. As a pitcher my self his back hand attempt was absolute lazy play and it ended up costing us the game. I can't remember the last time the guy gunned out a base runner.

Btw also if Mauer was playing catcher he would've gotten him out at home plate because Kurt was to short to reach the base runner.

Good analysis, jester, and very entertaining game. I share your enthusiasm for Sano, and your frustration with Suzuki behind the plate (I still like his professional approach at the plate though). I don't know if Mauer's concussion prohibits him from catching, but he sure hit better when he was a catcher...that would allow Mollie to put a real bat at first too.

The real difference between these two clubs is the bullpen...they have relievers that can strike guys out, and we don't.

Twins have been taking power arms bigtime lately. I think eventually that's going to filter into the Pen.

I haven't watched games and I get people being frustrated with Kurt especially since he isn't hittig like last year but I still like him for a couple reasons.

Puts the ball in play. That's keybforna team with a bunch of guys that strike out.

He is the type of vet this team has been missing for years. Plays hurt, tough as nails, probably a leader as well.

Suzuki is a flawed player but the options out there tend to be underwhelming. He is having a pretty poor season with the bat right now but my guess is at some point he will regress closer to the mean of his career which would yield a small improvement in the 2nd half. I'm glad we have him at this point warts and all.

Thanks for the reports on Sano it would be nice if he hit well right away and became a factor for the team. Good to see Hicks back also.
