Any pre-draft or draft day moves?

Post by Sundog »

Are you fellas expecting any pre-draft or draft day moves, or will the Wolves just stand pat and make their 2nd round pick?

I’m kinda expecting a trade involving Prince to get up into the 1st round or early 2nd. Prince has been pretty important these last couple of seasons, but he may be too expensive for his role and they may want to open up opportunities for Minott.

Good topic. I'm assuming no moves. I just don't know what we have to offer?

Can we sign/trade Naz on/before draft day? I don't even know the rules. He's probably our best chip. I doubt he wants to take a home town discount to stay here behind Rudy and KAT. He's put himself in a position to get paid. I think he's a fine offensive player. But I've read and agree with what FNG has written about him. He's not a complete two way player. I think we can replace his offense at a much lower cost than it would take to sign him. But he might have value via sign/trade so maybe something happens via that route. Who knows? But I'm certainly not expecting any big moves like last year's Rudy trade. I'm reading the situation as more and more "run it back".

I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything to exciting when it comes to draft day moves.

Moving Prince for a pick seems like a possibility but I also think Minott is more of a 3/4 than a wing that Prince is. Moving Prince would leave a fairly big hole of a proven player behind McDaniels. NAW is more of a SF than the guards that had been getting run before he was acquired but as much as I like him I’m not sure how proven he is either. It would be nice if Moore was able to give them something but…anyway this sort of illustrates the value of Prince or some other more proven vet on the roster.

Meanwhile I could see Connelly using a future 2nd to move up in the 2nd round or something like that. He is a guy that’s made plenty of those types of moves. It might be worth moving a future 2nd even though they don’t have many of they target a guy they think is worth it.

I did see that Spagnolo was in town which I assume means he is working out with the Wolves staff and probably prepping to playing Vegas again. I don’t think he is ready to come over now but I would like to see what he has in Vegas after another year of development. One positive about Spagnolo is he seems highly motivated to play in the NBA. Some guys that play internationally like Dubs who Flip picked a number of years ago are actually likely talented enough to play in the NBA but the are content playing larger roles while making decent money playing over there instead of coming here making maybe a bit more money but possibly sitting the bench. It’s even harder for bigs these days but yeah.

I'm anticipating they will move up higher in the second round to grab a guy they want or maybe the late first to get that cost controlled guy. There are some teams with a lot of picks that may not want to use them all.

Do people have a guy they realistically want the Wolves to land from this draft? I’m taking a guy more like a guy that would be available say #20 pick or later. I haven’t done much research so I don’t have anyone but I’m interested to hear who other people would like to get.

I know a guard sounds good but if we are picking at #50 or even a few picks higher I would just be happy getting someone that is a real worthwhile rotation player. Basically it’s like a few years ago I asked my friend who is a Bears fan who he wanted his team to pick in the NFL draft. He replied “Some guys that can play NFL football”. The Wolves could use a guard or a big wing. They are pretty loaded with big guys but a young defensive center wouldn’t be terrible to have on the roster. Sometimes finding a guy that has some talent and looks worthwhile can means. Trade asset. The Wolves will need those.

Yeah. I don't know anybody either. Sometimes these trades look like they are done just to trade. Like last year...I believe we traded:

* 1st round pick (#29)
* 2025 2nd Round Pick
* 2027 2nd Round Pick

For moving up three spots to get 1st round pick #26. That's where we stole Wendell Moore Jr. from the rest of the NBA teams :D

I'm wondering if Wendell would have been there at #29...I want my two 2nd round picks back.

Lol I get what you are saying. There were other players that would have been available at #29 various people on this board wanted to select. Nembhard had a nice rookie year and he went a little higher than most expected. Kennedy Chandler has already been waived and is currently a FA. TyTy Washington didn’t exactly play awesome as a rookie and is like 2 months younger than Moore. Jaden Hardy had a somewhat surprising nice rookie year.

Keep in mind the Wolves also traded down from 40 to 45 in the 2nd picking Minott and that’s how they have the Knicks 2nd rounder this year. All the trades they made last year (they obviously had more picks to work with) makes me wonder if there could be something in the hopper this year for something moving up or adding a 2nd round pick. Connelly clearly has an history that makes me think he will have continued interest in selecting international players.

I'm going for the best big out there. Maybe an overweight, unathletic Serbian?

Ha ha. May be the greatest draft pick in history. I don't think anyone in the modern era of the NBA has put together three consecutive seasons like Jokic just did. Literally never has a bad game. A lot of folks have come to realize that he's as good or better than Giannis, Curry, Kawhi, and Doncic and now he has a ring in addition to a couple of MVPs to back it up.
