It's TP Day!

Post by 60WinTim »

So what was your favorite Taurean Prince moment? On the bad side was him "throwing" the game against Chicago -- turning a sure-fire win into a loss (which was also the game ANT twisted his ankle). And on the good side, a couple games later, he couldn't miss from 3-point land and won the game for us at the Knicks.

I really like Prince, but I was usually disappointed we didn't get more out of him. Statistically, he had a down year last year. And somehow those nagging injuries would hit him, too.

It's TP day because we are apparently committed to using his salary to spend somewhere else. Which makes a lot of sense when you look at the Wolves roster. So TP will either be waived today to free up his $s for free agency, or his contract will become guaranteed, guaranteeing a trade either before July 1st, or after.

If he is kept for a trade, a "before" July 1st target could be Monte Morris. But an after July 1st target could Tyus Jones.

I keep checking my twitter for some sort of news. Nothing, yet.

Has to be the shove in the back to Rudy during the Rudy/SloMo fight.

The Timberwolves are declining to pick up Taurean Prince’s $7.4M contract for the 2023-2024 season, sources tell ESPN. Prince — who’s averaged 10.4 points in his seven years — joins the free agent market.

Since we didn't get any value for TP I will be slightly annoyed if Bruce Brown or Divencinzo aren't signed

There are other FAs... Plus it also sets up a scenario where the Wolves can take back more salary in a trade and still be under the luxury tax. We've been saying all along our biggest area of need is at backup PG / heir apparent to Mike Conley. Lets see what we get.

I didn't have a great place to put this, but it didn't warrant a new thread. Yet.

Scuttlebutt has the Wolves trying to pry away either Monte Morris or Delon Wright from Washington. If it's going to happen before July 1st, the Wolves have three assets available: Moore, JMac and Knight. Morris is more expensive and would require Moore and either JMac or Knight. Wright just requires any two of those three.

Tomorrow is the guarantee deadline for Knight. JMac is on Friday. I approve of trading any of those guys to get Wright or Morris.

It needs to be a guard who shoots and shoots in volume.

Monte Morris or Delon Wright is such a lazy acquisition if that's where TC goes.

Prince was a nice player for a couple years. The Wolves did a nice job with that extension last season to allow them to do what they are doing now. I wish Prince well. I’d guess he will have plenty of interest although he might not get paid what he did before especially if he wants to play for a good playoff team. He would be a nice pickup for a team that had the tax payer mid-level to spend.

For a wolves fan who has seen some crappy players it’s kinda wild we are able to let go of Prince on a reasonable deal and pursue someone else. There were years Prince would have been a good starter (compared to other options) on the Wolves roster.

If you leave other aspects out of the deals (draft picks) remember that Dieng was traded for that guy from the heat and then the Wolves traded him for Rubio and then they traded Rubio for Prince. There was some legit good moves in that trade line.

Gonna be interesting to see what the Wolves pull off now with the financial flexibility they have.
