The Trade. It's gonna happen. But when.

I voted deadline. I think the value is low right now.

The Wolves put out yet another social media post that doesn't reference KAT, this time short clips of almost every player of note hyping up the fanbase. Maybe I'm reading into it too much...

That’s right. Everyone knows that a healthy KAT will average 24/10/5. His recent illnesses and injuries have been freak things and not the kinds of things that involve structural damage or that tend to repeat themselves. He’s not coming off an ACL or Achilles tear. So I think it’s a bit of a myth that KAT’s value is low because of last season. The League knows the kind of player he is and there’s no reason to expect he won’t be healthy and back to where he was the season before last.WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 4:50 pmThen the value will remain low.
The Wolves aren't gonna watch him average 24/10/5 on great shooting midway through the season and then trade him.

Hmm. After watching Dan B’s interview of TC and then watching TC’s pre-draft presser, I was convinced the Wolves would not trade KAT this summer. But I’m getting a gut feeling in the last couple days that something is brewing. If it happens, I think it will be the Knicks. I’d like it to be a deal with Portland for Scoot. I hope it’s not a deal with the Nets for Simons and picks.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:12 pmInterestingBloopOracle wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 4:23 pm The Wolves put out yet another social media post that doesn't reference KAT, this time short clips of almost every player of note hyping up the fanbase. No vote from me, because my option is not listed. KAT is coming off a season where he missed over half the games, and is following it up with an off-season where he keeps trying to outdo himself with inane comments. I'm not sure his value will ever be lower, so unless TC is a big fan of selling low, he's not going to move KAT this summer. And certainly not for an unproven young PG with a substandard 3-point shot.
I think TC is analyzing which Rudy/KAT/Ant/Jaden iteration is more indicative of what we are going to see next year...the poor start to the season when they were paired with DLO at PG, or the team that went 6-3 in the final weeks of the season with Conley. I have to believe he thinks the last two weeks are what we can expect to see from this roster...if healthy, of course. And with that, I think he is going to move the pieces on the chess board to make sure he keeps this core together and under the apron through 2024-5, because I think he truly believe he has the makings of a contender. There will be some difficult decisions he will have to make to get there (like trading Naz for an expiring contract and picks mid-season), but it can be done.
So, I see KAT here at least through 2024-5. If he's healthy, I know he will produce at an elite level. And I also know he will keep making cringe-worthy comments.

If a contract or two is expiring it could help. I like trading him now. I'm just sick and tired of his shtick and lackluster playoff performances.60WinTim wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 12:21 pmBut what these poll voters don't realize is a trade next summer doesn't do a whole lot to help the financial situation, because KAT's contract will have ballooned to over 50 mil and they will have to take back a comparable amount of salary. The trade has to happen now (well, July 8th).

I didn't vote either as not all options are included (what if he is traded post-2024) and plus, this is a depressing subject reminding me of the stupidity of the Gobert trade and the overpay for Naz Reid.FNG wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 7:11 am No vote from me, because my option is not listed. I am harboring mixed feelings about KAT getting traded. He's probably the second most talented player the Wolves ever had and he's loyal to Minnesota and has been a good ambassador for the franchise. I had super high expectations when we drafted him and he's blown them away on the offensive side but underwhelmed them on defensive side. I don't want to trade a guy when he's at his low and unless we get Mikal Bridges or Scoot, Kris Murray plus picks or DeJounte Murray and Okongwu and picks, I'm not wanting to trade KAT. If we trade KAT, Rudy should be traded if we can net a valuable young player or draft compensation.

I think value will improve once everyone is ok with the functional reality of the new cba. Getting through this first round of free agency will be part of setting the market. Towns value is low because of his contract relative to his winning, not his stats from last year. More teams will emerge wanting to take on more talent as the bar gets set by those not being as cautious about the new CBA.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:57 pmThat’s right.
