Big get Kek? I wouldn't call it that.
2 years 6 million for Eric Gordon for a team that wants to win now is a pretty good move. My guess is he turned down more money to sign there.
He's missed a lot of games over his career, and he isn't getting any younger. I'm not saying it's a bad move, I'm saying it's not a BIG move.

Question: In terms of value of the player to help a team who would you rather have the next 3 years James Harden or FVV?

FVV and it’s not even close. Harden likes eating his burgers and friends and hanging out in strip clubs. He’s all about the NBA lifestyle and doesn’t prioritize winning. When he was young and in his prime, his talent made him great and he was someone to covet for your team. But now he’s an overpaid, bloated caricature.

Last year in FA this is what the Wolves did and I’ll give a grade that seems likely to be agreed on by most people.

Extension for Prince 7 million with a team option. Good move

Signed Brynn Forbes vet min deal. Bad move he did not work out but he was also cheap and was cut so not exactly a horrific deal.

Signed Austin Rivers partially guaranteed deal. Decent move he helped the Wolves for a stretch and provided some vet presence. At worst he was a replacement level player overall for the vet min. You can do worse like Bryn Forbes. Lol

Kyle Anderson 2 years 16 million or so. So far this looks like one of the best FA signing in franchise history…which the bar isn’t high it this was a terrific signing. Anderson was excellent saved the season with his ability to play PG and even knocked down the 3’s he took. He started a bunch of games and he played well in that role.

2-way deals

Eric Paschall ended up being bad and getting cut so that wasn’t a good deal

Luka Garza took Paschall’s 2-way spot and dominated the G-league and showed flashes in real NBA minutes. Pretty good move.

AJ Lawson like twice or whatever. Not sure how to even grade this.

Matt Ryan. Provided some decent minutes a few games. Maybe solid or maybe nothing worth writing about kinda like Lawson above.

So all in all last year in FA. Connelly and the Wolves absolutely swung and missed in Bryn Forbes which to be honest is a bit surprising since the one thing he has done his whole career he simply couldn’t do. The Paschall signing made a lot of sense but also sucked. It’s basically negated because the Garza signing was good. Every other move was either solid or good (Prince) or very good (Anderson). My point is that the Wolves likely won’t bail every move they made this offseason in FA but if they hit on at least one player and get at least solid play from another even if one guy sucks it might be a successful FA period. It would be nice to get worthwhile contributions from every guy they signed but that’s probably asking too much. There is one more roster spot to fill so that’s another chance to hit or not.

Anyways bring on Summer league!

Agreed:

Part of what I am getting at is that while I absolutely agree the FVV contract is an overpay for Houston it’s probably better for them especially for the talent they have to add him than Harden. FVV fits nicely because he can play off the ball and defends. Those types of PGs are really valuable. That type of guy would be amazing next to Edwards…lots of teams would like to have that type of player. Harden…is still a good player to some extent but idk even know what team he would fit on that wants to actually be serious about winning a championship. He hasn’t wanted to stay anywhere which is a real problem.

So if we heard the Wolves called about Harden…well I’d not be a fan of that although I still would assume it’s just due diligence or maybe sheer amusement. Lol Honestly Kyrie Irving too but thankfully he is now Dallas problem.

That’s a good landing spot for him and the Bucks for that price.

Utah offered Paul Reed a three year deal at 24M. I'm not sure if Philly matches this as they recently signed Bamba on a minimum contract to backup Embiid and also signed Montrez Harrell on a minimum. I think Philly still wants roster flexibility in case of a big trade, so I think they decline to match. Utah is building a nice front court if they get Reed they will have:

C Kessler/Olynyk
PF John Collins/Reid/Taylor Hendricks
SF Markannen/THT

I don’t think they would match that offer regardless but the way things are with the Harden trade looming I don’t think they can sign anyone to anything over the min or they get hard capped or something. I read they basically couldn’t really offer anything to McDaniels for that reason.
