#7th best young core in the NBA

Post by Sundog »

Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale just posted his list of the top 10 teams with the “best young core”… your Wolves are at #7.

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/ ... y.amp.html

1. Spurs
2. Thunder
3. Pelicans
4. Magic
5. Rockets
6. Pistons
7. Wolves
8. Pacers
9. Hornets
10. Blazers

7. Minnesota Timberwolves

Notable Players Entering Age-23-or-Younger Season: Anthony Edwards (21), Jaden McDaniels (22), Leonard Miller (19), Josh Minott (20), Wendell Moore Jr. (21)

It's tempting to put the Timberwolves higher. Edwards is #ThatDude, in every way and shape and form. Jaden McDaniels partners relentless defense and dependable shooting with a disarming and burgeoning floor game. We need to see more from the rest before jacking up Minnesota' collective ranking.

Not possible they traded their future away. Terrible list (I’m being sarcastic)

I would put Wolves top 3. Top end talent is always weighted the most and Ant might be the best of them all.

It looks like the author gave significant weight to the quantity of high-end young talent. I get the logic in that. If you give more weight to quality, then I can see why the Spurs would end up #1. But if you give the most weight to PROVEN quality, the Wolves should have been rated higher. Ant is second only to Wemby in upside and he is far more proven than Wemby. Jaden is already a proven elite defender at the NBA level. On the other hand, the Wolves don’t have nearly as many high-upside players as the other teams on the list.

Well this list measures the present roster, not the future roster additions, so it still sucks that Wolves are missing future first rounders (not just picks but the currency to make good trades), but hopefully TC can find some more diamonds in the second round.

Absolutely right, KG.

It’s pretty terrific that the Wolves have a current roster that can compete, as well as a future roster that shows strong promise. The only other team on this top ten list that can say that is New Orleans, imo.

We played without KAT for how many games and what was the record?

Then ask yourself would you trade our young core for any of those above?

Spurs maybe?

This is incredible disrespect.

This is a great point. This only lists the young core, but no other team in the top 10 has a group of supporting vets anywhere near what we have in Rudy, KAT, Conley, Slomo, Naz, NAW, JMac and Shake...not even close. The Pelicans are a distant second if Zion is healthy, but that is a huge IF.
