Lengthiest Team Ever?

Post by KG4Ever »

I think this has to be lengthiest team ever. Outside of JMAC, everybody seems long. Here are Wolves roster player's wingspan:

Rudy: 7"9
KAT: 7"3 to 7"4
Kyle: 7"3
Miller: 7"2
Reid: 7"1
Shake: 7"1
Moore: 7"0 to 7"1
Jaden: 6'11 to 7"0
Minott: 6"ll
Brown: 6"11
NAW: 6"9 to 6"10
Ant: 6"9
Conley: 6"6
JMAC: 6"3 to 6"4

When Jaden is in your bottom half, I would have to believe this is one of the longest rosters. Of course we have years of wingspan and reach experience from someone right here on our forum. What do you think Lip?

Lol. Yep, definitely long. But one thing I’ve learned over the many years of my obsession with wingspan and standing reach is that length doesn’t mean good. :). I’ll always take skill, IQ, athleticism and effort over length.

The length and athleticism is pretty impressive overall and should allow us to throw more zone looks next season. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of overall strength and girth which could continue to hurt us in the rebounding department.

Well we have one more roster spot and if we sign Bol Bol we get a 7"8 wingspan. TC kind of missed out on a 7"10 wingspan when Mo Bamba signed for a minimum deal with Philly. Well, you can't get em all.

TC loves long wingspans and it's also reflected in who he drafted or acquired in Denver: He drafted Bol Bol, Jokic, Vando, Nnaji, Michael Porter who all have 7 foot or longer wingspans. Added Aaron Gordon with 7 foot wingspan. Drafted a guard Bones Hyland with a 6"10 wingspan. He also drafted Walker Kessler who had a 7'4 wingspan. I think TC's fetish for wingspan may have led him to trade for Rudy.

It would appear that TC and I have the same fetish. But the Gobert trade indicates that TC clearly needs more therapy than I do. :)

I while ago I watched a really good video analysis of the KAT/Rudy pairing. I’ll try to find and post it. One thing the analyst discusses and illustrates on the video is how the Wolves were hampered defensively by three relatively slow defenders on the court in Ant and KAT. Having DLO on the court compounded the problem. He illustrated further how the problem was exacerbate when Slo Mo was on the court with those two. He showed how that lack of speed/athleticism on the court resulted in so many wide-open threes fast-break points. The analyst also highlighted in the video just how great Jaden is defensively as well as how good Ant COULD if not for his far too common lapses.

The upshot for me is that length means little if it compromises speed and mobility because the modern game is all about space, pace and 3-point shooting. Having one relatively slow guy with great length on the floor is fine, but having more than one is problematic.
