Minott is not an NBA rotation player at this moment. Maybe that changes but really bad summer (his numbers are fine but it’s all transition)

May be he needed a dose of humble pie. He's been talking with a chip on his shoulder in recent interviews and believes he deserves playing time. He's proven he can't play the 3 and we have way more guys ahead of him at the 4.

I agree. Minott really hasn't improved his range. Last year, he averaged one triple a game on good percentages, but this summer he hasn't made any. His overall percentages have improved over last summer as he is shooting better in the paint. He really needs to show progress in the G Legue this year to even crack the rotation. I'd rather see Miller at power forward and Troy Brown at small forward.

Ya. Minott has skills, I think he is elite in transition, good cutter and plays really hard. I just think I expect more growth from him in other areas what we have not seem. I think he can be an energy guy off the bench but my expectations of him being more than that have went down for this year. (I think he could get there because he has the tools)

Minott has mostly met my expectations this summer. Let's not forget that just 15 months ago he was getting only about 15 minutes in college. He's long, athletic and raw, and he will take some time to be an NBA rotation player. I'm not worried...I didn't have him in my rotation this year anyway. My 6 3-5s are Rudy, KAT, Jaden, SloMo, Naz, and NAW, and if there are injuries, I probably have Miller and Garza still ahead of Minott. I still feel he's going to be a good rotation player in a couple years.

I think we can do better than Matt Ryan. He doesn't do much else besides shoot 3s and he wasn't super proficient in college (only 36.3%) and for Iowa last year he was just 35.3%. There are better shooting specialists and there are a lot more better complete players.
Fair. I’m just saying someone like Ryan who can shoot is a need
Yeah, the summer league team doesn't have much outside shooting, but I think Wolves are fine with outside shooting. Sure, they could always add more, but I want complete players over shooting specialists. Heck, Garza is a bigger Matt Ryan but he can do a bit more. I'll run a search of summer league guys that are free agents and 24 or under and are shooting over 40% on good volume for you if want.
Kek, I ran a search for current Summer League players averaging 2 or more triples a game if they played multiple games or 3 or more if they played only one game AND they shot 40% or better AND they are free agents and 24 or younger. I pulled 10 UFAs and 4 2-way guys that fit the profile. I'll list the five UFAs that might be most interesting, if you want a shooter:

1. Michael Devoe
2. Javon Freeman-Liberty
3. Jared Butler
4. Johnny Juzang
5. DJ Steward
Honorable Mention: Louis King, Brady Manek, Jalen Wilson (2way), Jacob Gilyard (2way)
Older, but can shoot: Armoni Brooks (25), Xavier Moon (28)

I agree, FNG. I get expecting Minott to be better than he was in G-League last season, but we’re talking about only 3 summer league games. Let’s see how he does over the course of his second G-League season and whatever minutes he gets with the NBA Wolves next season. Moreover, he’s actually put up very good numbers in his three games thus far. And nothing wrong with his production against Atlanta today. He had 8 rebounds 3 steals, two blocks and double-digit points again on 50% FG shooting. Yes, his 3-point shot hasn’t developed. And yes, he has yet to show he can guard PGs at the point of attack. But he’ll be an NBA rotation player after next season if not before. I’d say he has a Vando floor with a lot of upside beyond that.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, but I really have watched Minott closely. His floor could very well be below Vando's, especially if he doesn't develop his outside shot. Vando is a better rebounder - that almost goes without saying. But the other thing Vando can do is guard and contain perimeter players.

Minott simply doesn't have the ability to stay in front of guys with any sort of handle and face-up game. For all of his elite north/south athleticism, he's TERRIBLE moving east to west and gets very easily crossed up and turned around. And he's still too light and skinny to be able to contain a legit big 4 or 5 in the paint (and even some 3s). So it's sort of the worst of both worlds defensively.

While I'm not giving up on Minott, I am downgrading his stock from a Buy to a Hold. You gotta be able to show you can play in the half court to be a regular NBA rotation player some day. That means being able to switch and contain guards and wings; hit outside shots; box guys out; etc. Hope he proves me wrong and I'm forced to upgrade his stock!

Agree 100% Q. He has the same problem as Nowell had. No matter the player he guards he could not square him up and gets beat and fouls them. He’s averaging 5 fouls a game in the summer league and would have fouled out in 2 of the 3 games. He also showed no improvement on the offensive end. He is a very good in transition and is a good cutter (it’s sort negated by no threat to shoot). Minott needs one of these two things to happen. He needs to be able to defend on an island or knock down 3s or he is not an nba player. Now he has time and has the tools but he is not as far along as I thought and because of this I’m more concerned about our depth because at the moment we can’t trust our bottom 4 guys (Moore, Jmac, Miller, Minott) to provide positive minutes.

Is there a shooting coach that regularly works with Josh Minott?
