Agreed. In addition there are still some worthwhile free agents still available that could sign here or maybe more likely sign to another roster bumping a different player off that the Wolves could add. How many teams have roster spots open right now? Some teams won’t even fill those spots. Just as an example Nowell is a guy I think some team should take a flyer on for cheap but how many teams have a spot for him?KG4Ever wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 11:35 am I'm glad the spot remains open for now. OKC and some other teams will have to make some difficult roster cuts or moves and there may be some attractive names available later. OKC has 21 players rostered and I'm thinking OKC might be releasing/trading two of the following guards: Tre Mann, Isaiah Joe and TyTy Washington. There will likely also be some interesting names among the two-way players including our own Luka Garza. Preseason is usually a much better indicator of breakout talent than summer league, so waiting is probably best for now.

Re: Last roster spot
To check each team's number of guys under contract, go to Spotrac: https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/
Right now, it looks like 8 teams have 13 roster spots filled and another ten including the Wolves have 14 roster spots filled. Six teams have more than 15 signed to their roster.

Re: Last roster spot
The Kings signed Nerlens Noel for 3.1M. Good signing. I guess he went for a little more than I thought.
Re: Last roster spot
I’m pretty sure that’s the vet min since Noel has been in the league for 10 years. That’s a solid signing. I’m guessing there is a better path to playing time there than here. Kings do still have Alex Len but here he would have to beat out Towns Naz and maybe even Garza for backup C minutes. I like Noel and he wouldn’t have given the Wolves a defender at that spot that they don’t have but the Wolves have a lot of guys they could play there including Miller.
Thanks for doing the work on finding out how many roster spots are left. So with Noel signing that takes out another roster spot so there are around 25 open full NBA spots left. There are some FA that might fit into a 2-way deal but there are likely plenty of guys deserving one of those (I think Brandon Williams is deserving but might not get a spot) and like Williams not everyone will get one…or some guys will hold out for actual NBA deals. Finding out some of the benefits of the 2-way deals makes me wonder if some players are more open to that than I thought previously.
Something to consider there are some former NBA players playing internationally that might be worth signing by an NBA franchise. I saw some team signed Dante Exum to a deal. A guy that came to mind was RHJ who looking at his international stats he still can’t make 3’s but he seems like a guy that could help a team that needs a versatile vet defender. A couple teams have signed international guys already this offseason. There could be other guys we know nothing about that teams could be considering.

An NBA writer, Keith Smith (134.5K Twitter followers) said " I talked to two different teams this morning and both independently mentioned that they are monitoring the Thunder and what happens with the roster.
One exec told me "Some good players are going to get cut from OKC and we all need to be ready to jump when that happens."
6 OKC players will get cut, so Wolves should just sit tight for now and be ready to pounce. There are plenty of Summer League standouts that don't have a contract, we could always get later if we want.

Re: Last roster spot
TyTy or Mann would definitely be interesting. I doubt Joe gets cut after his improvements last season as a shooter.KG4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 12:27 pm An NBA writer, Keith Smith (134.5K Twitter followers) said " I talked to two different teams this morning and both independently mentioned that they are monitoring the Thunder and what happens with the roster.

Re: Last roster spot
I agree that Joe will likely stay on OKC's roster and I really like his game. I would be happy if we signed TyTy as he is a good young point guard prospect. Ironically, Connelly traded the pick that was used on TyTy along with two second round picks to get Moore. I didn't like the trade at the time as I had some other players I preferred at the spot including TyTy. Getting TyTy would make me feel better about that trade.TheFuture wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 2:06 pmTyTy or Mann would definitely be interesting. Re: Last roster spot
I liked TyTy also. It will be interesting to see if OKC dumps any vets instead of losing young players. Will there be a player that a team is willing to give up a small asset even cash to secure the player instead of them going to waivers and signing them via FA? Is TyTy (or other guys) someone teams would hope to sign to a 2-way deal? TyTy might be all in on that because he would have already gotten paid and on a 2-way deal the team pays for his apartment. For a guard the Wolves have quite a bit of depth now but the opportunity past this season could be very wide open.KG4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 3:16 pmI agree that Joe will likely stay on OKC's roster and I really like his game. Re: Last roster spot
Gay was waived so OKC is now down to 20. I think if you look at OKC's roster of guards, there are three point guards that I assume OKC is keeping SGA, Micic who they just signed to a multiyear deal and Cason Wallace, the 10th pick this year presumably have secure spots. Also, Giddey can play point guard, but he starts at the other guard spot opposite SGA. Also, they have Dort and Isaiah Joe. So there are 6 guards that are probably locks. Then there is Aaron Wiggins, Oladipo, Tre Mann and TyTy fighting for probably two more spots. Dort and Wiggins can also play small forward.
I think OKC is about the worst place for TyTy to develop since he'd be fourth on the depth chart at point guard and OKC is loaded with draft picks in the coming years, so I think he's likely going to be a roster casualty. OKC might try to get him to take a two-way deal, but the Wolves could offer him a 15th spot or a two way deal with a much easier track to get in the rotation in the future.

Re: Last roster spot
I don't think he is eligible for a two-way at this point. For OKC at least. I would wager he is the more likely casualty over Mann.KG4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:14 pm Gay was waived so OKC is now down to 20. They have oladipo, bertans (likely kept around for salary matching), poku, gusman, jack white, somebody else or two or three they just signed to a small guarantee deal, and TyTy all likely getting cut or moved for anything Presti can get his hands on. I wouldn't trade a 2nd for TyTy to secure him, but I would offer him the 15th slot on a very low deal with team options while telling him to come prove something, our future PG spot has openings.
