Anthony Edwards Changes Number To No. 5

It's just a number change, but I think it's more than that.
I think that even though Edwards is still very young, with receiving a five-year extension he is beginning to understand his new status in the team, the influence and power he has in the organization.
In the end, this is a step that should build his legacy in the team.

It's amusing to think Malik Beasley was the player keeping Edwards from that jersey.

Ant will be wearing number 5, but it would appear that he’s #1 among the long list of top high-school prospects who have attended Steph Curry’s basketball camp over the last 8 years. Here’s what Curry said about him when asked if anyone stood out in his camps, which included the likes of Jalen Green and other really talented players who are not in the NBA:

Q. You just named a list of players that have excelled in college, the NBA or the WNBA. Was there anybody in particular on the boys or girls side that you knew after the camp had a chance to really be special?

A. Anthony Edwards for sure. He just had a different demeanor and different competitive presence out there on the court during our camp sessions and even in the showcase game that we had. There were just plays that he made that nobody else really could. So I think that most people who watched that year would have had a lot of confidence in the fact that he'd be who he wanted to be.

NBA Central: Patrick Beverley expects Anthony Edwards to eventually leave Minnesota. “He will get out of Minnesota. That’s just what happens. That’s no disrespect to Minny. With that personality, he can change the world with basketball. He is the type of player that you need to see.”

I’m originally from Chicago. But I think I’ve lived in Minnesota so long now that I’ve forgotten how remote and isolated this state is - surrounded by nearly impenetrable mountain ranges and impassible rivers with limited access to electricity and still dependent on the telegraph for our communications. So of course it’s unlikely a Timberwolves player will ever be seen much no matter how good he is or how much his team wins. That’s why no one knew who KG was until he went to Boston. I suspect Ant will end up in that huge thriving metropolis and vibrant media market, San Antonio, where David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu became widely known around the Country and eventually ended up in the basketball hall of fame. By the way, like Pat Bev, I mean no disrespect to Minny. I’m just stating the facts.

That is funny. Although there is some truth to what PatBev says. The NBA is a lot different than the NFL in this regard.

I’m thinking Pat recently got word he wasn’t getting the Wolves’ last roster spot…

Pat Beverly thought he was going to come here, turn it all around, and finally get the credit no one previously wanted to give him…in his eyes….Sour grapes Mr Beverly, sour grapes!
