Not sure where to put this - but as most of you know Jeff Van Gundy was fired from ABC/ESPN. Not a terrible loss until you see who they are replacing him with, Doris. And further, Doc Rivers is being hired for an on-air role. Yep, straight up vomit.
I don’t mind Doc on podcasts so we’ll see. But ya it could be rough
How many times does he say, "I really do"?
Part of me enjoyed JVG but part of me was like dude there’s like a basketball game happening here. It was kinda amusing and maddening that a guy that seemed sort of old school would basically lean so hard to his role basically being some sort of entertainment/going off on random (although often predictable) tangents. Idk guess JVG won’t have a hard time finding something to do with his life. It could be hilarious if he was a host or voiceover guy for some sort of reality TV show. He will have better opportunities though.
I don’t dislike Doris Burke but she isn’t amazing either.
Ultimately I’m not sure the goal is for these bigtime broadcast crews. Are they trying to appeal to a more casual type of fan in a way knowing people like me are probably gonna watch (or not watch) regardless? Do the people they pick appeal to that sort of group? Idk.
Looks like Mark Jackson is gone too. Not super sad about that. The whole ESPN shakeup is weird. I don’t care all that much but it’s a little weird.

I liked JVG. I thought he was entertaining while also offering some good insights. Doris annoys me. Her voice is like fingernails on a chalk board to my ears. And she can’t seem to stop talking. Firing JVG is one thing, but it’s unbelievable they can’t do better than Doris and Doc. Yuck!

Vanderbilt gets 4 yrs/$48 million from Lakers. Good for Vando!
Yes. He’s obviously pretty highly valued in League to get a guaranteed 4-year deal at that amount.
Good for Vando! Glad he got a bag and he earned it. I am glad we aren't paying him though and the only player I miss from the Rudy trade is Walker Kessler. Pat Bev, Bolmaro and Beasley also moved on and that opened up four roster spots which I think we have filled with players that fit the roster better and for less money.

I’m glad Vanderbilt got a deal done and IMO this was a wise move for him. I assume this extension kicks in after this season. This season mid Level ended up being almost 12.5 million. Next offseason it will probably be at least 14 million. What will Vanderbilt’s first year of the contract start at like 10 or 11 million so a few million below the mid-level? The last year is a player option which is a nice move for him because either way he will be making a nice chunk of money. Vanderbilt decided security was a good move and the Lakers were willing to give him a good chunk of money to get the deal done.
It’s worth asking will Vanderbilt be worth the contract he signed? Idk it depends on how valuable he can be (bench player starter maybe he improves in some way) and how much salaries got up etc. if he had stayed here I assumed he would end up with a pay increase. I like Vanderbilt a lot but even with rising salaries this kind of money is different than him being a bargain at 4 million a year. Ideally the Wolves will have acquired young players to replace him and or Kyle Anderson. That’s what good teams are able to do.
