I just checked the box score...Latvia led by 10 at the end of the first quarter and only trailed by 1 at the half. But Canada blew them out in the second half, and I can only conclude from the box that NAW's defense had to be a big part of the blowout. While he didn't start the game, he did end up with the most playing time (31:41) and despite shooting only 5-13, he was a +21...second only to Olynyk's +29. I know Ant's performance this summer has been quite heartening, but I wonder if we should be even more excited about how NAW has developed and produced.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 10:59 am Canada dominates again. NAW with not the most efficient or productive game, but played a ton of minutes and was 4/11 on 3's. Love seeing him take that shot in volume and gaining confidence as a shooter. That's big for him.

I’m cautiously excited about NAW. Right now the four players who have already proven themselves to be reasons for getting excited about the Wolves (Ant, Jaden, Naz Reid & KAT) were brought in by past regimes. Rosas gave us Ant, Jaden and Naz. Flip gave us KAT. I’m waiting to see TC add at least one gem. Maybe NAW will be that guy. Maybe it will be Leonard Miller or Josh Minott. TC’s track record in Denver tells me he will hit on one or more young gems for the Wolves at some point if he hasn’t already. He certainly nailed the Kessler pick. Except for Moore and Spag, I really like all the young (under age 25) talent he’s added to the Wolves so far.FNG wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:21 amI just checked the box score...Latvia led by 10 at the end of the first quarter and only trailed by 1 at the half. Speaking of Kelly Olynyk, my wife and I met his parents in Hawaii last winter. We ended up seated at the same table at a luau. They were super nice and fun. Kelly’s mom was impressed that I knew, as a true draft geek, the year and position her son was drafted.FNG wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:21 amI just checked the box score...Latvia led by 10 at the end of the first quarter and only trailed by 1 at the half. Yeah, I didn't see the game, but I do suspect that NAW's energy and defense was a big part of the 2nd half blowout.FNG wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:21 amI just checked the box score...Latvia led by 10 at the end of the first quarter and only trailed by 1 at the half. Ant has come back down to earth with two mediocre performances in the games that actually count, so some of that hype needs to be tamped down a bit. Look at what NAW's cousin SGA is doing. He stands out more to me than Ant has throughout FIBA.
Re: Fiba World championships
I've not been impressed. I have officially left the Minott bandwagon after watching him in summer league. Absolutely terrible defender. He isn't even close to Vanderbilt, as some have liked to compare him to. Offensively he has some potential, but he's a disaster defensively. And Miller's shine wore off the more I watched him - I have concerns. And Moore, being the oldest of the bunch, is about as plain vanilla mediocre as you can get as a player. Spagnola is stuck in Europe and Clark is out of commission with one of the worst injuries a player can have. Not a pretty picture!Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 12:46 pmI’m cautiously excited about NAW. I actually had some of the same thoughts as you about both Minott and Miller, but I’m keeping an open mind based on their overall talent. I didn’t like the Clark pick because of the nature of his injury and the moment I saw Spag in last year’s summer league I was convinced he’ll never be an NBA caliber player. If your perspective turns out to be correct and you combine that with the Gobert deal then I’d say TC’s tenure so far has been horrible and worthy of termination. I’m trying to be optimistic but I often wish Rosas had kept his zipper up, in which case he’d probably still be here instead of TC.
Re: Fiba World championships
Sorry Lip! I got burned badly by not noticing some of the little things with Nowell early in his developmental curve. I was so impressed with his ability to get his own shot and produce numbers in the G-League that I failed to see the red flags. Won't be fooled again! I started seeing some red flags with Minott in summer league that are easy to miss if you focus too much on how he looks in unstructured fast-paced situations or garbage time.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:18 pmOuch! Hopefully I'm wrong about my dour outlook on these younger guys, but I am concerned. The DLO trade could be looked at as a feather in TC's cap, especially if NAW really turns in a strong season.

By the way, I'm just down on the bottom of the roster. I can be convinced that our top 9-10 guys may be able to hang with anyone in the league.
My concern is that we likely have to trade KAT, Rudy, and/or Naz between the trade deadline and next offseason and we may lose Kyle Anderson to free agency too. It would be a bummer if we don't have any bigs on a rookie contract (i.e. Minott and Miller) that can help fill the void, but I'm afraid that might be the case.
