To be clear, KG, this was a G League pick (owned by the Iowa Wolves) that was traded. The Timberwolves still own their 2024 pick (somewhere in the very late 20s :D ).
FNG, yeah I know. I purposely left that info out. Iowa Wolves traded pick. I was just seeing if I could get a reaction from someone first before providing the full details.
Ha, you got me on that one...nice work, KG!
I would have never believed that it was an actual 1st round pick. That was a fun way to put it though! Lol

Keels is a guy I have liked he seemed like a guy coming out of college was worth a flyer based on how low he was getting picked. I like this move bringing him into the organization. He turned 20 last month is a somewhat big combo guard. If I remember his stats last year as a pro were not very good on either NBA or G-league but in college he showed a diverse bunch of skills. Maybe he won’t ever put any of it together (doesn’t have to put it all together to be worthwhile but I like him developing in Iowa. This is just another big guard type the Wolves keep adding to their roster. Hopefully they hit on at least one even if that’s just as a legit rotation guy.

I probably value Matt Ryan the most on this board but that doesn’t mean I am anywhere near enamored with him. Still I’m relatively happy he is back as he does provide the Wolves with a guy that can shoot the 3 at a high volume and probably will make a more than acceptable amount of them.

Apparently this is in error. Ryan will be at training camp to "compete" for that last 2-way contract...

And another JonnyK note: Jaylen Clark had a great report on the progress of his Achilles tear and thinks he'll be flying around the court soon! (whatever that means...)

Really good news about Clark, Tim. He had his surgery in early March, and they say you can get back to working out within 4-6 months, but that it often takes up to a year to be at full strength. Many were thinking he might be back sometime in March, but I've been thinking all along we'd see him sometime around the all-star break. He could be a nice defensive piece to add late in the season, especially is we've had any injuries to our guards.

As Tim posted, Jonny K tweeted: “A point of clarification here: told that Matt Ryan will compete for the last 2-way contract with other camp invites in training camp”

Glad to hear Matt Ryan hasn't been just handed a two way deal and will compete with the other Exhibit 10 guys like Nix, Keels, Krejci and Brandon Cooke. I think we have a full training camp roster with 14 standard contracts, 2 two-ways and 5 Exhibit 10 or training camp deals. OKC still has to cut 4 guys and so if someone like Tre Mann or Aaron Wiggins gets cut, I hope the Wolves still have the flexibility to consider bringing either of them in.

Doogie had just said that Ryan signed the two-way. I think the deal is Ryan signed the two-way, but teams can cancel a two-way at any time and sign someone else. JonnyK's clarification is probably that Ryan is competing for that final two-way in training camp, even though he technically has it at the moment.

I think the Wolves are gonna hold Clark back and make sure he is healthy long term. I think that’s reasonably wise plus I would hope they don’t need to play him at all this year. Maybe he ends up playing a handful of games near the end of the year in the G-league.

On the other hand something to consider is that new Vikings stud RB Cam Akers injured his Achilles in July 2021 and just over 5 months later he was activated during the regular season December 2021 and played in the playoffs and Super Bowl. I know basketball involves a lot of cutting and change of direction but returning from that injury as a RB? That seems kinda impressive. I don’t think Clark will have multiple 300lb guys actively attempting to tackle him when he returns to play his sport!

On Matt Ryan…that makes sense if he is still competing for a 2-way spot since they can cut him loose at any time. Heck he could impress so much he gets an actual NBA deal although I would guess Garza is the guy that is more likely to do that. Ryan has the inside track on that 2-way deal (it was offered him months ago) but we saw a seemingly legit youngish NBA vet lose his 2-way spot last year to Garza. I don’t think Ryan is gonna fall as flat on his face as that guy but Ryan also doesn’t have a legit NBA resume either. Someone with more potential could easily get that spot instead. The Wolves have shown they are willing to pull the trigger or the plug on those 2-way deals.

While its great to hear Jaylen's health is improving, I don't want Jaylen Clark playing at all this season for the Minnesota team. He should focus on getting healthy and like most rookies, especially those not taken in the lottery, he's probably going to be a net liability and I don't want him taking minutes away from any of our top 12 guys.

Wolves add Tyrese Martin to training camp roster. I think that makes 22 if you count Jaylen Clark. I thought I read 21 was limit and if so, I wonder if someone like Javonte Cooke got cut from training camp roster.
