Mostly agree, but I'd give Gobert a B- and KAT a C-. The reality is the defense didn't totally fall apart when KAT was in and Gobert was out. While KAT's transition defense may have been bad, his paint defense and rebounding was pretty damn good.

Rudy did look pretty spry and was a big part of our defense, but once again, his presence really gums up our halfcourt offense. They still look clunky out there when he's in the game with all sorts of awkward sequences.

Gobert was our best player. He ran both ends of the floor and battled hard all night. Next I'd say Slomo followed by Ant. Sucks to lose like this but I'm really encouraged with the Rudy we saw tonight.

On the negative side I thought NAW had a poor game, and KAT was below average. We have to shoot better, make fewer dumb decisions, and get some easy baskets. It hurts to lose to a 2nd class team out of the East.

Rudy was -11 tonight. Hard to see him as our best player with that stat. I’d say Mike Conley was our best player. Rudy was probably our second best. But that just makes those two the best of bad. Our two most talented players, KAT and Ant, had uncharacteristically poor shooting nights. That’s why we lost. But I liked Ant’s 14 rebounds, and as Q pointed out, KAT’s half-court defense and rebounding were very good tonight.

I’ll say this. The Wolves won’t win many games in which Conley and Rudy are our best players. KAT and Ant need to shoot better and they will. The team needs to stop trying to force the ball into Rudy on rim runs. And Jaden needs to get back in the starting lineup.

I agree with the grades except Shake and Finchy I would go a bit lower. Shake was lost, him and KAT were the most disappointing to me. Finch should have tightened the reigns IMO.

I didn't see the game, but the advanced stats are out and Rudy has PER of 22.0 which is far and away the best of the team. I'm not saying PER is the only or best stat - just providing another angle other than +/-.

Full disclosure, I look at +/- after each game too and when I see a guy with a team worst negative it raises questions for me. But I personally trust the Advanced production stats like PER and VORP over +/-.

Rudy shot 50% and had a double-double plus two steals (minus two turnovers). Overall, I'll take that from Rudy each night. Based on PER, the weak links were NAW and KAT last night and I'm assuming Rudy played a lot of (negative) minutes with those guys.

Rudy was certainly one of our better players Wednesday night. As I noted, he was best, second best or third best but that’s best of the bad. Nothing to write home about. And you just can’t ignore a minus 11. Shooting 50% isn’t impressive when every one of your 12 shots is at the rim. Then you have to consider the turnovers AND the lack of offensive flow that result from Rudy repeatedly rolling to the rim to get those 12 shots, which represent a fraction of the times he’s rolling or posting up and clogging the lane. Again, Rudy played pretty well. But it’s how Rudy fits and impacts this team that matters. It’s still a work in progress so we’ll see how it goes. Ultimately I think this team’s overall talent will propel it into the playoffs in the 6-8 seed range. But I don’t think this mix of talent will get us further than that. I hope I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it right now.

I don’t know how anyone can conclude Rudy cost the Wolves that game. Terrible shooting, terrible decision-making cost the Wolves that game. We won’t usually see shooting that bad, so we shouldn’t overreact.

If anything Shake deserved a higher grade than C-. Shake had 2 or 3 steals (saw two different stat lines for him), four assists and three rebound and was a plus three, second best on team. His shot wasn't falling but pretty much nobody else's was either. I'd also give KAT a little better score. I can't say any Wolf played well and I don't think any were absolutely horrible either, though NAW was the worst Wolf last night.
