There’s a big difference between KAT and Harden. KAT hasn’t proven to be mentally tough, but he’s always been competitive and a hard worker who is fully committed to the game, to his teammates and to his franchise. Harden is well known as a guy who prefers the NBA lifestyle over the NBA. He has long since allowed himself to become fat and unfit as he spends his time indulging his various appetites for food and strip clubs. And of course, he’s consistently thrown teams and teammates under the bus. He’s a bad seed who is persistently out of shape and unreliable. He’s also 34 years old and only a one-year rental.
The good news is that the Sixers received 2 first round picks (one of them unprotected) along with 2 second round picks and a pick swap as well as expiring contracts in return for Harden. That bodes well for the return the Wolves should be able to get for the 28 year old KAT. There should be no doubt that the return for Town would be substantially greater than what the Sixers just received for Harden. There’s certainly a deal out there with the Knicks if the Wolves want to explore it. We know the Knicks have been trying to trade for Embiid, but that’s not happening. I have no doubt the Knicks would love to get Towns and the Wolves would get a very nice return from them if they were to go that direction. I’m not suggesting the Wolves SHOULD trade KAT to the Knicks or any other team for that matter. But it’s something worth considering as we get further into the season.
I’d want Quickly as part of any such deal. The risk is that he’s a free agent the end of this season. But I like his talent and more importantly I think he has some moxie and mental toughness the Wolves need. The Knicks also have a lot of future 1st-round picks. I like Mitchell Robinson, but he doesn’t make sense for the Wolves unless the Wolves also move Rudy in a separate deal. Unlike some on this Board, I like RJ Barrett, but he doesn’t fit our roster with Ant and Jaden at the positions he plays. The Wolves would probably need a third team to make it work with Barrett going to the third team and the Wolves getting a good player from that third team. It would be interesting to know if the Knicks might be interested in swapping Mitchell Robinson and salary fodder for Rudy. It doesn’t seem likely, but I’d consider that as well.
Around the League - '23-24 Season
Re: Around the League - '23-24 Season
Lip, I know last night's loss was tough to swallow. I'm not ready to throw the towel in on the season over a putrid half of basketball. If we get Jaden back healthy on full minutes, this team should be able to hold onto big leads better. Many of the rotation pieces have not played together very long including Shake, TB, NAW, Conley, Rudy, Garza, Miller and so hopefully more experience together will be helpful and also should give Finch a better idea as to what rotations work well and which ones don't. We have until all-star break to get a better idea what we have. If its not working, I'm sure the Wolves ownership will seek to fix things whether that means Finch is replaced and/or there is a roster shakeup. Whether we'll finally get past the first round of the playoffs or watch a trainwreck, or something in between, its sure to be entertaining.
Re: Around the League - '23-24 Season
I don't like the Knicks trade assets. A bunch of players I don't want here and a bunch of protected first round picks. Quickley is ok, but he's not a needlemover and he's a bench player for a reason. KAT is a damn good player (despite his softness) and I think another coach might be able to get a lot more out of KAT than Finch is currently getting out of him. I remember mentioning Mikal Bridges as a target and most of the board thought that was too little. I'd take Bridges in a heartbeat. Same with Dejounte Murray. If we can't get a star back for KAT, we should keep him or look to a team like OKC who could give us a much better package than the Knicks. I'd be interested in whether we can get a young talent like Chet Holmgren or Jalen Williams from OKC, plus some picks or just a massive pile of picks.

Re: Around the League - '23-24 Season
I think people are so consumed with making it Ant's team that they forget that your 2nd and 3rd best players have to be damn good too, so are we really comfortable betting the entire duration of the Anthony Edwards era on Immanuel Quickley becoming our Jalen Brunson? I don't wanna get too deep into this until it happens (and I think it eventually will)
But I'm glad most are coming around to the fact that KAT's value around the league is really poor.

Re: Around the League - '23-24 Season
I think we need to be a little patient with Ant and Jaden. They both need to take another leap for the Wolves to get better and I haven't seen it yet. Ant's passing and rebounding have improved on a small sample size, but his defensive stats have dropped significantly on that same small sample size. He is getting to the line fewer times, but he is making more of his free throws. His field goal percentage overall has dropped a bit, but his three point shooting has improved. So Ant is growing in some areas but perhaps at the expense of other areas. He needs to put it all together for the Wolves to climb to the next tier.

Wolves aren't only team to suffer a meltdown, Suns were up 20 at home and Spurs came back to take first lead with 1.2 seconds left and Durant missed the would-be winning shot.

KAT is much younger then Harden and yes his value should be much higher. I do think they are similar though, never won anything big (probably never will), both mental headcases who are very offensively talented yet defensively limited (Kat fouls like a clown on steroids ). Harden is for sure even a bigger headcase and bad teammate sure.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 2:59 pm There’s a big difference between KAT and Harden. His value isn't much higher than this because like Harden, not many teams are gonna think they're a Towns away. Even the team he's linked to the most (Knicks) the fans don't want him there, so to make a move to get Towns while Embiid, Mitchell, and/or Luka haven't left yet would be a fireable offense for Rose/Rosas.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:07 amKAT is much younger then Harden and yes his value should be much higher. I would argue KAT isn't just a rental though either, he's a guy you can build with (not around exactly). It's surprising to me how much the Sixers got for Harden.WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:17 amHis value isn't much higher than this because like Harden, not many teams are gonna think they're a Towns away. I would argue KAT woulda been more valuable as a rental because nobody thinks he's a supermax guy.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:26 amI would argue KAT isn't just a rental though either, he's a guy you can build with (not around exactly).
