Timberwolves defense

Post by FNG »

I don't think we have a thread strictly dedicated to the Wolves defense, which has been stellar this season. NBA Central just listed the 20 best defensive ratings this season. Gobert is first, KAT is second, and there are 4 other Wolves (SloMo, Naz!, Ant and NAW) in the top 20 along with Holmgren and Suggs. So that's 6 Timberwolves and 2 Minnehaha graduates in the top 20! And our other two starters (Bite Bite and Jaden) have been exceptional this year, even though they don't make the top 20. Here's the list.

It's been such a blast to watch. We've always had good individual defenders, but we've never had the whole team buy into playing with this kind of defense before. More than ever, you can see them pressure ball handlers, deny guys the ball, fight through screens, slide their feet and keep their hands up. It's beautiful to watch honestly. When a team plays like that, it's so much more than a sum of its parts.

If any of you are lucky enough to see this team live, let them hear our respect for the tenacity and pride they play with on the defensive end. Let them hear it when they are locked in on D. It really seems to electrify this team's defense, almost like those old Detroit teams. Let them hear it.

We haven't been sharing the ball much in the early going...

Nor have we been playing good defense or rebounding. Maybe the players have been paying too much attention to all the hype? Time for another "wakeup call" game?

Maybe they'll get their shit together...

So far this is exhibit A for Q -- good offense will beat good defense.

More support for our outstanding defense this season. And by the way, Orlando is really good too.

Houston is sort of the surprise team in the West this year and their defense is a big part of it. I know Brooks is an NBA villain, but he has certainly helped Houston.

Yes, the addition of Brooks and VanVleet has really changed the character of the Rockets. I still think they end up out of the playoff picture (along with the Jazz, Spurs, Grizzlies and Trailblazers).
