I’m starting to educate myself about instagram models and their link to NBA players. He’s an excerpt from an article last year:

Aliza Jane, the Instagram model that once claimed that she performed oral sex toDevin Booker and six other Phoenix Suns players at the same time, is now pregnant with her first child and the Internet has been heavily speculating that the father of the baby could be a current NBA player, even though she has yet to publicly address the issue.

As I educate myself on the world of instagram models, I’ve learned a bit about Dreampaige, the instagram model who claims to have been impregnated by Ant. She’s 29 years old and has a net worth of around $30 million. I’m guessing - just a guess - that this episode isn’t the first time she’s been pregnant by an NBA player or celebrity and I suspect she’s had more than the one abortion she refers to in what was supposed to be a private text exchange with Ant. Here’s her bio:

Dreampage, Instagram and Tik Tok star. Biography, facts, photos

Dreampage, born in 1994, is 1.70 meters tall and weighs around 56 kilograms, she is an imposing figure who turns heads wherever she goes. Her net worth is estimated to be an incredible $30 million. Yes, you heard right!

I’m not excusing Ant’s conduct or approving his callous treatment of his instagram sex partner. But I think it’s important to avoid looking at what happened through the lens of our own tame, non-celebrity lives and culture. I would bet that Dreampaige has received far more callous texts, some of them probably downright vile, from former celebrity hookups. And you’d probably need more than two hands to count the number of celebrities she’s had sex with.

I don’t expect Ant to become my friend or son-in-law. He’s a great player and engaging personality. By all accounts he’s a terrific selfless teammate. That’s plenty for me to root for him without any reservation. It would be different if he physically assaulted a woman. That would completely change my view of him and impossible for me to remain a fan. But in the world of NBA players and instagram models, this latest revelation is meaningless.

Very disappointing, kek. The callousness of Ant's texts to the woman makes him seem very unlikable. The Wolves are having an incredible season, but unfortunately the "face of the franchise" seems to be a stupid jerk. This will be a true test of the extent of my rubeness, but I expect I'll compartmentalize this and continue to cheer for Ant...shame on me.
Ant’s texts were cringeworthy. Nevertheless, like you I’ll compartmentalize this and continue loving Ant.

Maybe I’ve grown callous but it won’t be difficult for me. I wonder whether any of us would like any of our friends if we knew the intimate details of their lives, dating back to when they were in their early 20s. We certainly wouldn’t know about this private conversation between Ant and Paige except for the fact that he’s a celebrity and she was pissed when she found out Ant’s girlfriend is pregnant. Paige is apparently an instagram model. I’m not even sure I know what that is, but apparently that makes her something like a celebrity.

Now Paige is pregnant and both she and Ant are responsible for the pregnancy - both morally and legally. Ant can’t force her to get an abortion. He wants her to get one and she apparently doesn’t. Ant has offered her $100K to pay for it if she does as he clearly was trying to persuade or entice her to get one. But he can’t force her. She can take the money and have an abortion or go through with the pregnancy if that is sincerely her desire, in which case Ant will be financially responsible for the child.

She should follow her conscience and I sense that she will given her texts and the fact that she made the text exchange public. She’s certainly no shrinking violet who does whatever she’s told and doesn’t fight back. I’m not sure what she was thinking when she had unprotected sex with a 21 or 22 year old NBA star. Obviously she knew she could get pregnant as did Ant. Maybe she was hoping he would marry her, but she doesn’t seem that naive. We know what Ant was thinking — i.e., he wasn’t thinking and figured he could make any problem go away with some cash. It’s an ugly situation I wish I didn’t know about. But I suspect it’s par for the course in the world of NBA players and instagram models.
Good perspective Lip.

I always find it disappointing when these young athletes become the very caricature that they are often made out to be by their fiercest critics - as shallow, personally irresponsible dummies. If this is all true, then Ant certainly fits that caricature and none of us should be too surprised.

But you know who else were womanizers and shallow when it came to their sex life? Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, JFK, and if you want to go waaaay back, King David. And the great athletes from our childhood? Let's not even go there, as the press probably protected most fans from the ugliness that went on back then.

I'm having a tougher time compartmentalizing this one, Lip, and it may take a little time. Here's my problem. I understand that NBA players are not like us, and are regularly going to engage in behavior that most of us find questionable...I'm long past worrying about that. My issue here though is with the cavalier way in which Ant is handling this. His "here's $100K so just take care of it and go away" attitude is revolting...especially when directed toward a woman who tells him a prior abortion had been difficult for her.

Ant is a complex guy. I've long thought he might be one of the dumbest guys in the Association, and frankly that has been part of his charm...he acts like a child, and it's often endearing. But in this case I think it's incumbent upon him to act like a man, not a spoiled child. And as a Wolves fan, I worry about whether Ant has some Ja-like self-destruction potential. Last year he had the homophobic instagram post (which fortunately his agent/attorney guided him toward a positive statement, and he didn't lose too much from a PR standpoint). Now only a year later, we get this ugly incident. What are we going to get next with Ant...how close is he to brandishing a gun in a strip club? I suspect he's not too far away from escalating bad behavior. His handlers are again going to direct him toward a proper PR statement, but I suspect this one is not going to be as easy for him. He has already lost his position of most popular T-Wolf to Naz Reid, and I think he is going to lose some fans from this one...maybe even me.

And if we boo Josh Giddey every time he touches the ball, how should we respond to Ant?

Lip, it was interesting to see you weave through this situation and in a short time come up with the conclusion that it isn't that bad. I can't be as lenient on the parties in this situation. Ant has two babies on the way. And he's trying to decide that one gets to live and one doesn't get that opportunity. It really doesn't have anything to do with whether you can cheer for him as a basketball player. Sadly, Ant isn't alone here. The Shawn Kemps and Marshall Faulks of the world have shown us that this does indeed happen with regularity to celebrities and sports stars. But I'm not going to normalize it. Ant is a piece of shit but I will still root him on at his job. It wouldn't be the first time, and I'm sure not the last. I just won't have the same respect for him that i might have otherwise.

Good historical context, Q. This situation with Ant is nothing new among athletes or revered political and social leaders. The only thing seemingly new is this world of instagram celebrity women. This particular instagram celebrity, Dreampaige, is nearly 8 years older than Edwards, so she’s hardly naive or a victim. This certainly isn’t a Josh Giddy situation.

I’ll admit I’m disappointed by this revelation. I wanted Edwards to be different from the caricature of professional athletes and celebrities. But was naive of me to think that he would be different from the panoply of professional athletes and rock stars for whom unrestrained, unprotected sex is as much a part of their lives as eating and sleeping.

I don't think it's that bad, you give a man 100+ million and hordes of women throwing themselves at him things will happen. I certainly didn't gain any respect for him from this, but the amount of men who would do the same in his shoes, at his age would be staggering in my opinion.

As expected, the PR attempt. I guess I'll give his handlers a C- on this one.
