1/3 way through season

Post by Carlos Danger »

27.3333 games is 1/3 of the full 82 game season. We are 21-6. We've already passed or tied eight of our (shittiest) Wolves' full season win totals:

15-67 (Jimmy Rodgers)
15-67 (K. Rambis)
16-66 (Flip)
17-65 (K. Rambis)
19-63 (Rodgers/Lowe)
19-45 (R. Saunders) - shortened season
20-62 (Lowe)
21-61 (Blair)

Right now we are on track for 63 Wins. The best season we've had was 58 wins in 2003 when we went to the Western Conf. Finals with KG, Sam and Spree. What a start!

It makes me wonder if the team makes a deep run or possibly wins it all if Kyle and Mike would stay on the super cheap. They seem like they value continuity and winning very highly. I believe Mike would/will considering his place in his career. Either way we should soak it in, in case Karl or Rudy (or Jaden!@#$%?) are moved.

I guess I'd be okay with 63-19, although I'm having trouble finding 13 more losses in the schedule.

Maybe this will finally force Tim to abandon his terribly pessimistic moniker.

I hope we can all celebrate Tim later this season. Hitting 60 would be magical.

I hope so, too!!

On another note, KAT has been ruled out for tomorrow night at the Kings with knee soreness. We were smoked by the Kings at Target Center last month. We didn't have Jaden back then and Shake was still a part of the rotation. Can't expect a win tomorrow, but it should be an intriguing game for life without KAT -- after all, he is the one player who could be moved in an effort to get out of luxury tax hell...

[Edit: I am not advocating a KAT trade. Just recognizing the financial situation the Wolves are in. ]

Zero chance Jaden is moved. Perfect pair with ANT and they are on the same time-line. Perfect 3 and D player really. I'd bet on all of Conley on a cheaper 2-3 deal or walks, SloMo walks, unfortunately losing NAW to a team who outbids us, NAZ traded, KAT or Rudy traded happening before there is even any thought of Jaden getting moved.

That's definitely the most likely scenario but Connelly will need to be careful about moving either Towns or Gobert, they are still really important. With those 2, the packages will be limited but with Jaden, they can name their price.

IF….the Wolves are actually good now or actually like really good why would the wolves organization not do what they can to keep a really good team going regardless of the financials? The Wolves could be kinda like GS when they arrived. If you ended up being a championship team or even contender for a few years the money could really roll in. Edwards is ridiculously marketable. It’s time to quite thinking like this is a failed small market team. The Wolves aren’t probably gonna go bonkers but they aren’t gonna avoid the lux tax forever. That’s part of why the Wolves got Connelly here was they probably said hey we are willing to spend the lux tax to build a good team.

Meanwhile watching one of the games this last week I was thinking about Naz and made a comp which is not fair and a bit outrageous but remember some of the great Celtic and Lakers players came off the bench for chunks of their early careers. Kevin McHale is one of the best bigs of all time and he didn’t become a full time starter till he was 4 or 5 years into his career. I’m not suggesting Naz will become a HOF player but he can clearly be a really important player for the wolves and cold end up being even more down the road. I think the Wolves can afford to keep him as a top bench player and just keep rolling.

I think one of the biggest developments this season is Edwards passing. He still hasn’t arrived as a playmaker but he is hitting Gobert on plays last year he simply didn't made or made such poor passes they weren’t even close. There are guys that are gonna want to play with him if he continues to progress in that area. One of them might be NAZ REID.

This has been a heck of a start and it seems like this team is legit but I know most of us still in the back of our minds wonder if this is real. I think that’s fair. Let’s keep enjoying it and see where we are in a few more weeks.
