So there's been a lot of talk on NBA Radio about who is going to draft Bronny James and get his dad on a vet minimum contract as a package deal. It got me to thinking. Let's say the Wolves owners decide to move KAT in the offseason to avoid the second apron. Would we consider Bronny with either our late first round pick or the second round pick we're going to get from Memphis? James is averaging 25/8/8 at age 39, and there's no reason to believe that he'll be much worse at 40. Bronny doesn't appear to be an NBA prospect to me, but a starting lineup of Rudy/James/Jaden/Ant/Conley could be quite good (James has a higher VORP than KAT this season)...not to mention we could hopefully get a few first round picks back for KAT.
It might soften the blow of having to break up a very good (championship?) roster, and also replenish our picks. Nobody is going to waste a high pick on Bronny, but a late first rounder would mean LeBron would be going to a team that might be able to compete for a championship...that might keep his attention, even is his boy doesn't get any minutes. Thoughts?
Wouldja?
Re: Wouldja?
No. I'd rather go another 30 years without a playoff appearance without James than one season with him.
Re: Wouldja?
I would, especially if LeBron was willing to sign for the vet min.
I don't think Bronny will ever make it in the NBA, even as a role player. But having LeBron play for us would legit make us championship favorites. Even if for just a season. Put him in at the point. He might even be open to playing here based on us being genuine contenders. Would be worth going 2nd apron too for a real shot at a championship.
Imagine: Gobert - KAT - McDaniels - Ant - LeBron
Deadly lineup. Size and length to the extreme lol.

Re: Wouldja?
The whole Bronny thing is just ridiculous. I actually feel sorry for him because it's already obvious that he isn't NBA material, so all the fawning he gets from ESPN and the other LeBron James sycophants just sets him up for a big letdown. He's one of the worst players on a losing D-1 team.
So it's a big HELL NO from me. I don't want our franchise to have anything to do with indulging the whole LeBron/Bronny idolatry.

Re: Wouldja?
if all it took to lock LeBron down was draft Bronny, why wouldn't he go high in a terrible draft?
Because he's not gonna be an NBA player.

Re: Wouldja?
James' people have enough clout to ensure Bronny James doesn't land in Minnesota.

Re: Wouldja?
I was actually kind of surprised we had two votes here in favor of drafting Bronny. I think the idea is kinda weird, but I still would support it under a scenario I think is not unlikely. Let's say the Wolves go deep this year (or even win it all!), but then decide they don't want to keep all three max guys and go into the second apron. I think in that situation KAT would be the most likely guy to go, and I think we would have a difficult time competing next season without him (I doubt that we would get a good starter back for KAT...probably just role players and draft picks). I wouldn't want a down season after making a championship run, and adding an All-Star like LeBron to the mix would lead to another run I think.
I see Abe's reply that LeBron's people would never let him land in Minnesota, but I would argue it might be the perfect place for him to end up. After a season in which the Lakers either don't make the playoffs or have a quick exit, he's going to be hungry for one more championship run. And I think Rudy/LBJ/Ant/Jaden and Mike (who I think likes suburban Minnesota life and winning enough to come back on a team-friendly contract) would be very competitive.
An interesting idea at least...
