Buyout Market

Post by 60WinTim »

This thread is for monitoring the buyout market and who might our next Wolf (or two!). Here are some of the parameters:
  • We have 13 players, giving us 2 open roster spots.
  • We are required to get our roster to 14 players within 2 weeks.
  • We are currently 1.56 mil under the luxury tax.
  • It is very unlikely we would sign a player for more than the vet minimum
  • The vet minimum contract is prorated, so every day we wait reduces the contract dollars.
  • A contract signed tomorrow would be $766,095.
  • We could sign 2 players tomorrow and still be under the luxury tax by a few thousand dollars.
Alright, let the buyout market begin!

On a side note: Conley has two $750K incentives, one for making the finals and one for winning the finals. So as it stands, winning the NBA finals this year makes us a luxury tax team. Signing a second buyout player and making the NBA finals also makes us a luxury tax team. I guess we are rooting to be a luxury tax team!

Per Doogie it seems like the wolves had mutual interest in McDermott, however McDermott was traded to the pacers today.

Dinwiddie seems like he is going to be the prize in the buyout market but I’ll personally be shocked if he ends up on the wolves just because I don’t see a mutual role for both parties.

Joe Harris was cut today. He is a guy who could come in and just hit 3s, where he would not be expected to have a huge role on the roster

Daniel House: More of a 3 and D wing who is going to have people interested in him. Not sure he would love his role on the wines wolves. He would be a great replacement for the Troy Brown role.

Evan Fournier: My personal favorite possibility. Has a really good friendship with Rudy. He can shoot, create his own offense, would be great in case of emergency scorer. He was in thibs dog house for 2 years but he was great in international ball

Marcus Morris: one of the low level Timberwolves websites mentioned him as the wolves were interested. He can shoot the 3, bring toughness but he thinks he is better than he Is.

Kormaz: another guy that can hit 3s

Kilian Hayes: wouldn’t make an impact this year but has a French connection. Also buy low PG project when all 3 of our PGs are UFA

James Boknight: Another buy low player that would not play.

Luka Garza: locks up a skilled big long term for cheap. When the Kat/Rudy/Naz combo could be gone.

Austin Rivers: I just trust him more than Moore and others if someone like Naw got hurt. He also knows the team

TOR waiving dinwiddie to avoid paying him a bonus for games played. He’s been pretty rough this year, but maybe he can slot into where shake/tbj were?

Sorry Dave, I think kek is right that he really isn't a fit on the Wolves. Plus he will be sought after by more high profile teams that can offer more opportunity than we can.

I really like kek's thoughts on Fournier. Is there any word on him being bought out?

I have not seen anything. But the pistons need to cut players after todays trades and I’m not sure what use they would have for him

Hopefully Fournier hits the wire because the current list isn't very enticing. Have to think we'd be high on his list to play with Rudy on a winning team.

Actually, they had to cut players before each trade could be done!

Gallinari waived by Detroit. Maybe Evan will not be waived?

I would be ok with Dano!

Although, maybe the game had passed him by?

When Giannis attempts a 3, it is a great sign for the Wolves. He usually misses, and it also tends to kill momentum. Of course you have to get the rebound.
