Taking in the full scope of this 35th season

Post by Porckchop »

At the break we’ve watched our beloved team put up a win total surpassed by only 12 other Wolves teams in history. Falling 3 short of last years win total. It’s been an impressive run sustained by a defense that refused to fall prey to soul crushing losing streaks. We’ve seen a 60 point performance, Gobert standing up to Draymond, most wins against .500 teams, Finch calling out his team and them responding positively and most importantly the team will enter the second half fully healthy. And I’m convinced we still haven’t seen the best of what Ant and Kat can contribute to this team.

Yup, amazing regular season so far. Hard to appreciate it in the moment at times...

What's been impressive to me more recently is that it appears they are improving their offense organically, something I didn''t have much hope for after 40+ games of mediocrity. But we are suddenly taking more 3's and turning the ball over less, all with mostly the same rotation. This trend began before Monte Morris arrived and he should help even more on both fronts.

It seems to have been that hour film session they had after one of those bad losses. I don't remember which one. But I think the trend started there.

Like you guys, I'm loving this season...can't wait for the second half and the playoffs!

But Tim, as emotional as that hour film session after the Orlando loss was (and apparently it involved an Academy Award angry performance by an intimidating Corliss Williamson), I don't think that was the catalyst. Because a mere 4 days later, we suffered an even worse collapse against Chicago. I don't know why we are now playing the best basketball of the season the past four games, but I know what Rudy would say. He would attribute it to his plea to the coaching staff that they take advantage of the rule that allows the visiting team to choose which bench they will be on, and choose to have it be in front of the coaching staff for second halves. I think his point was they didn't need real-time coaching help on defense, but they needed it on offense...and maybe Finchie could help them avoid 4th quarter offensive collapses. As Rudy said when asked: "Four and O, baby!"

By the way, did anyone here know that the visiting team gets to choose which bench they have? I didn't.

This kind of fits in with the scope of this season. Finch was on Mark Stein's Uncut podcast today. It runs about half an hour. Nothing amazing, but you can't help but thank our lucky stars that Finch is head coach.
