Re: KAT tore his meniscus
Interesting, Jon K was on radio about a half hour ago and said that the second opinion apparently is not all doom and gloom... Could we potentially see a scenario where KAT makes it back a few games before the playoffs?
Re: KAT tore his meniscus
I hope his second opinion tells him to get it repaired and take the rest of the season off. It would be a shame to risk the rest of his career (and life) over one season. As someone who was stupid and ignored it, I would give anything to go back and get surgery. He injured it during the last game. I was hoping it was nothing at the time, but you can see him repeatedly shaking the leg as if it was slightly out of joint.
Re: KAT tore his meniscus
Kat to have surgery expect back by the playoffs.
Re: KAT tore his meniscus
There's a lot of meniscus damage on this board!
As someone putting off a replacement for the past 5 years I highly recommend taking up curling! No joke!
It's been so much better in strengthening the hip and ankle than even PT!!

Wild, haven't you already made that judgement?WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 4:15 pmIf Jaden doesn't step up in these next 20 games, we're gonna realize we grossly overpaid for his services.
Re: KAT tore his meniscus
I tore the meniscus in my left knee about two years ago. My ortho doctor recommended the trimming surgery you had. I know people who have had that surgery and most of them have been back in action like you within a month, but some take longer. In my case, a family friend who’s a retired ortho surgeon recommended against the trim surgery. He said it would have me back in action without pain in about a month but would likely lead to arthritis within a few years. And my tear wasn’t in a location amenable to the repair surgery, which has a 6-month or more recovery time. I decided against surgery and slowly eased back into my regular exercise and sports activities. I was back doing everything I had been doing about 3 months after the tear. I’m now two years out from the injury and I have no limitations or pain. Hard to know what will happen with KAT. He’s a big guy and that puts a lot of stress on his knees. And playing NBA basketball is another level of stress on the knees. But he could easily be back without any impairment by the playoffs.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 11:08 am I've had meniscus surgery on both knees. Each time they went in and just trimmed the damaged area out. I was running on a treadmill within a week, and probably could have played in 3 weeks. It's not going to heal on it's own if it's torn. Your choices are removal, which could cause long term problems, or repair, which keeps you on crutches for weeks and extends the rehab time. Let's say they just need to trim 20% of the meniscus. In that case he can be back pretty quickly.

I may be the only guy on this board who hasn't torn his meniscus...I'm gonna walk very carefully today!
KAT, good luck with the surgery and heal up quickly! Q asked above whether KAT can help us much in the playoffs after a long layoff, and it's a fair question. We've seen jump shooters struggle with their shot after missing time. But KAT is not a jump shooter...his mid-range and his 3-pointer are flat-footed set shots. I think he will be on the court taking shots long before he is cleared for action, so there's no reason to believe his shot won't be in mid-season form when he returns. He will struggle with his wind likely and that could impact his defense and minutes, but if we can make a deep run in the playoffs, his conditioning will return to normal after a couple weeks.

It would be a bonus if this episode cut down in his bull-in-a-china-shop drives to the basket... (I have had a meniscus repair as well, so your are overdue FNG!)FNG wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:21 am I may be the only guy on this board who hasn't torn his meniscus...I'm gonna walk very carefully today!

Re: KAT tore his meniscus
Dude this is wild how many of us have meniscus injures. As far as knee injuries I guess it depends on the type / severity pretty wildly it can be minor to full recovery to ongoing problem. Like mine I heard / felt a small pop then had bruising and swelling in the area, of course pain also. I think mine was pretty minor. I did end up wearing a compression sleeve / brace for quite a bit playing sports after for about a year though also. I still feel very slight pain sometimes, but it's basically a non issue.
I hope KAT gets back to close to 100%. I know Embiid was struggling with one for years also. I tend to feel like KATs is more minor if he was playing through it so I'm crossing fingers.
