Coach of the year

Post by FNG »

It's fun to see Finchie with the second shortest odds in Vegas to win COY. slightly behind Daigneault. But I would actually make a case for a guy who is currently sitting tied with Udoka with the 6th shortest odds...Tom Thibodeau. I don't think most NBA fans would look at the Knicks' roster and say "Wow, that's a talented group of guys". And beyond that, they will only have their 2nd best player Randle for 46 games this season. And still the Knicks are now tied with the Bucks for second place in the East. Brunson is a true superstar, but perhaps Thibs deserve some credit for how much better he has played since coming to NY.

Thibs annoyed the hell out of me when he was coaching the Wolves, and I was not at all unhappy when he moved on. But he would be my choice for COY this season.

Knicks defense since they got OG has been incredible. Probably the second best team in the East barring a sixers team with embiid in top form. I think Thibs is a plus coach, but probably more of a floor raiser than someone you go get to get to put a contender over the hump.

Knicks are a .500 team against the West this year, so their winning record is largely a reflection of beating up on a bunch of weak Eastern Conference teams. Also, they lost all their matchups against Boston. Thibs has done a nice job, but no way should he earn Coach of the Year over Finch or the OKC guy's name I can't spell.
