I have a confession to make

Post by BloopOracle »

Last night I rooted for the Lakers, because I knew if they won our playoff games would be bumped up to reasonable start times. It hurt me deeply but I knew it needed to be done.

It was one of those nights where I could just watch the game and enjoy. If they won, they draw the Nuggets. And then they either win and we get home court, or they lose and I'm happy. If the Lakers lost, I'm always happy.

You are forgiven Bloop. Haven't seen the padre around these parts lately, but he could make it official.

I don't really dislike the individual Laker players other than may be Reaves and LeBron to a degree (I was not a DLO hater, but certainly love the trade that brought us Conley and NAW). I really like AD, as I think he is truly one of the great two-way bigs in the NBA and I like the fact he doesn't foul-bait or flop around as much as Embiid or even Jokic for that matter. He seems to keep a very stoic demeanor out there.

What I hate more than anything is the media and NBA punditry class fawning and obsessing over them. That's what makes me root against them more than the players themselves.

I'm embarrassed to say I was a Lakers fan. But that was in 98-2003 (early Kobe then Shaq years). Once we faced them in 04 I jumped off the ship. I obviously had to root for the Wolves because they are my ride or die.

I'm very close to where you are, Q, with respect to the Lakers. I almost always cheer against them because...well, they're the Lakers. I think I'm mostly cheering against their fans. But there's nobody on the team that I dislike. I didn't like DLO's fit on the Wolves, but I always liked him as a guy...and man is he ever having a good season this year with the Lakers. I'm curious why you don't like Austin Reeves though. He's one of my favorites...seems like a generally good guy to me.

So yeah, I still almost always cheer against the Lakers. EXCEPT: I'll be cheering big time for them against the Nuggets!

There's NEVER a valid reason to cheer for the Los Angeles Lakers.

NEVER. I'm hoping the Nuggets sweep them.

Really, Abe? Sometimes we have to put our hate (and most of us have it for anything LA) away and look at the big picture. Would you really rather play the Nuggets in round 2 with no home court advantage than having home court advantage over the Lakers?

I'm all about the Wolves and the Lakers in round one...go DLO! Anybody else here with me?
