Dallas Game 2 Grades

Post by KG4Ever »

Naz B (Good offensive game, but he blew the potential game winner and his defense and rebounding were so-so)
SloMo B (Best plus/minus and his overall contribution was slightly positive)
Gobert B- (Ok, made some good plays but couldn't stop Dallas AlleyOop game)
Conley C (Shot well outside, but missed a free throw (4th in two games) and his passing wasn't up to par)
NAW C- (brutally bad start, but settled down)
KAT C- (missed too many shots, but made a lot of free throws, a bit puzzled why KAT was benched as we could have used his boards)
Ant D(Really bad game, he may be injured, but he has to suck it up and he should have taken last shot)
Jaden D-(He had a fantastic game last game and he was ice cold, made a terrible pass and couldn't hang on to a critical rebound despite the hack by Kyrie, just wasn't impressed at all with him tonight)
Finch F (I expected him to really adjust from Game 1, fix up the defensive lapses and get this team fired up, but he couldn't. Just a horrible coaching job for someone trying to get his team to the finals)

Naz has to get an A for tonight. Ant made a terrible decision passing him the ball for a contested 3-point shot when we were 1 point down at the end. His defense was fine.

KAT can’t get anything better than a D from me after hitting only 25% of his FG attempts.

I’ll give Jaden a C because his defense was very good. Yes, Luka scored a lot of points but Luka would have had 50 points but for Jaden’s defense.

I’ll join you in giving the coaching staff a low grade. But I’ll give them a D. I’d probably give them a C if not for their failure to challenge the foul call on Jaden with around 3 minutes to go in the 4th.

Pretty solid grades, KG. I'll side with you with respect to your Naz grade, because there are two sides to the court. His shooting was A+++++: really fun to watch him last night, and he was close on the potential game winner. But his defense and only 2 rebounds in 32 minutes were more like a D. I love the guy (like all the fans do), but the Naz experience couldn't have been more on display than it was last night. He's our high scorer and shoots an incredible 7 for 9 on threes, and yet he's a zero in plus/minus! Naz is a terrific offensive player, but the rest of his game is so bad he needs to have a career shooting night to not get outscored by the opponent.

On the other hand, Kyle was solid at both ends of the court. 5 assists with no turnovers, 7 points on 5 shots, and rock solid defense. We can't expect Naz to shoot the lights out like this again, so I'm calling for more SloMo minutes in the upcoming games. Jaden has worked his tail off guarding Luka, but I think Kyle has actually been a little more effective. Maybe a little more Kyle on Luka and NAW on Kyrie will unlock the offense we're not getting from Ant.
