Anyone have ESPN Insider?

Hoopshype has a headline "Timberwolves want to avoid trade of Karl-Anthony Towns". It's a Lowe article and that must have some blurb about KAT further down in his article. I am curious as to what the blurb actually says. Is it referring to now? Or down the road?

I don't expect a KAT trade tonight. But nor would it be a surprise...

Hmm...
Interesting, Tim. Makes sense for the Suns. I'm hearing they really covet Kolek and have told him they will take him if he's available, and they might be thinking he will still be available at 27. I don't think most mocks have Collier available at 22, so I don't know if he is really their target. Maybe they think they have to move up to 22 to get Baylor, but I think this would be giving up too much to get him. I agree with the Athletic that TC will do something other than just draft 27 and 37, but I don't think it will be this.

So much of the decisions tonight hinge on what management has decided to do with SloMo, Morris and JMac. I'm hoping we don't draft one of the many mini-PGs available in this draft, but if we do, it will be a strong signal that at least one of our backup PGs isn't coming back.
I have an opposite view point: whoever they draft tonight will help determine what they will do with SloMo, Morris and JMac (add Garza to that list, too!).

Although, regardless of who is drafted tonight, I think Morris is an absolute lock to re-sign with the Wolves.

Not much just.

"New York has now foregone its cleanest paths toward acquiring higher-wattage superstars who might one day become available. This front office has tentacles everywhere. You have to defer to their intel. They might have reason to believe Giannis Antetokounmpo will not become available via trade in the medium-term future. The same might be true of Joel Embiid, a long-rumored Knicks dream target who is 30 with an increasingly scary injury history. (Bridges never misses games.) The Wolves hope to hang onto Karl-Anthony Towns despite tax concerns, sources said, and he might not be the best fit in New York anyway given his massive contract and so-so defense. Jaylen Brown? Yeah, I think Boston is good, thanks."

Nothing much there. Just writing about what various teams are doing and speculating about the Knicks.

Sundog wrote: Wed Jun 26, 2024 11:31 am I think I'm betting we package 27 and 37 for an earlier second round pick and a future 2nd...
Now that could be a shrewd move! If there are lots of players you like at 27, but no one you love, trade back into the early 2nd round to get one of the players you like. In the meantime, since you already have so many young players, you avoid adding a second young player and instead add a future asset. Not to mention you no longer need to commit a roster spot or cap money to your pick if you sign him to a two-way contract, thus making it easier to retain your FAs and/or sign a new vet minimum guy.

Now that is playing chess, Sundog!
If Utah is worried about a player not getting to 29 I could see them trading 29 and 32 to move up a few spots.
I see one of two likely scenarios:

1. We package 27 and 37 to trade up a few slots to get the guy we want, probably Scheierman, Kolek or T. Shannon; or

2. As Sundog suggested, we package 27 and 37 to move down for two lower picks and a future 2nd rounder in 2027 when we have no picks. One possibility would be trading 27 and 37 to Utah for 29 and 32 if Utah has their eyes on some who they’re convinced won’t get by Denver at 28.

There’s a reasonable probability we stay at 27 and then trade #37 for a future 2nd rounder or keep both and use a 2-way to sign pick 37.

There’s a very slim chance that we trade Rudy, KAT or Naz to trade way up to get a guy like Reed Sheppard, or Devin Carter.

Another slim possibility would be trading 27, 37 and Miller or Minot to Miami for the chance to get Topic.

Trade up to get the player you want at the highest salary slot.

Tidbits:

Wizards trade Avdija to the Blazers for Brogdon, the 14th pick and a 2029 pick.

Nic Claxton re-signing with the Nets, 4 year 100 mil.

Talk of Wiggins going to the Bucks for Portis and fillers.

WOJ already using his sly verbage to say Risacher will go #1, which most mocks were predicting anyway...

Oh, and OG agreed to an extension with the Knicks, which will hard cap them. They will be limited in how much they can offer Hartenstein.

My favorite player, Reed Sheppard, is now off the board. Bummer. Look out for Houston. The Rockets, OKC and Spurs are three really talented young teams on the rise. The Spurs will have the 4th and 8th picks to add talent around Wemby, Sochan and Vassell.
