Notes: Measured 6′ 11.50” barefoot, 9′ 3.00” standing reach, 236 lbs, 7′ 5.00” wingspan, 30.5 standing vert, 35.5 max vert at the 2024 NBA Draft Combine …

Those are impressive measurements. A 9’3 standing reach and 7’5 wingspan are very solid for an NBA center. You rarely see a player with that length and a 35.5” vertical. So there are certainly some foundational physical attributes to work with. He had terrific stats as a 4th year senior at Syracuse - 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. While I don’t expect him to contribute next season, he’s a nice prospect to have in the organization on a 2-way deal. Right now, it looks like our three 2-way contracts will be Clark, Jesse Edwards and Nix. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that someone other than Nix will end up with that third 2-way deal.

Not a bad move. We really don't have a true Center in our pipeline of younger guys, as Naz has absolutely proven that he is more of a pure 4 and can't play the 5 without getting overwhelmed by opposing bigs (many of whom are similar size to him, yet he still has problems boxing them out).

He’s a nice two-way signing by the Wolves front office. He give us a more traditional “in the paint” behind Rudy, which is something we didn’t have last season. Before declaring that he’s someone who can step into Rudy’s shoes off the bench, I’ll note that his 9’3 standing reach, while solid by NBA center standards, isn’t at Rudy’s elite 9’7 level. But he does the things Rudy does - protecting the paint (he averaged 2.7 blocks), rebounding, put backs and lob dunks. I’m not sure about his pick-setting.

He’s neither super big nor explosive. But what I like about him is that he gets off the floor quickly without the need to gather himself. That alone is a critical attribute for success as an NBA big. And while he lacks Rudy’s size, he has important attributes that Rudy lacks. Jesse has terrific hands. He also has nice touch around the basket and seems far more physically coordinated than Rudy with his movement, shooting, catching and passing in the paint. I don’t have high expectations for Jesse, but I see potential there that definitely makes him a worth 2-way signing for the Wolves.

Check out Edwards against Missi at around the 12:00 to 13:30 portion of the video. Edwards looked impressive offensively against Missi, who was the 21st pick in the draft last week. Yes, Missi was just a freshman, but that doesn’t entirely take away from how Edwards pretty much dominated him in those few clips.
