I know it was posted in the wolves free agency post but because there will not be much wolves FA news I’m giving each signing their own page.
2 year deal, no money yet. Happy for him and good insurance for the bigs long term.
Luka Garza back 2 year
Re: Luka Garza back 2 year
Officially got the league minimum. I actually think that is a steal for the wolves.
He is a legit nba skill set in scoring the ball. Works his ass off, great teammate (apparently really close with Rudy) and is getting better. He has massive holes in his game in defense and defensive rebounding. But he is like a long reliever in baseball, he can eat innings during the regular season and be in case of emergency play in the playoffs. Those guys matter.

Yeah, I think our frontcourt is stronger, because not only is Garza back in the fold, but we have Jesse Edwards on a two-way that adds more depth, at least for the regular season.
The money has got to be a veteran minimum contract. Garza would not have commanded more on the FA market, and this is why the Wolves didn't extend the QO, because that would have been more than the vet minimum.

Exactly Kek. He's also a guy that will force Leonard Miller to work hard on both ends in order to earn minutes.kekgeek wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:06 am Officially got the league minimum. I actually think that is a steal for the wolves.

Not being a rim protector as basically a center is very problematic but it seems like he has a chance to be a good or solid team defender being where he is supposed to be. He is a poor defensive rebounder though and he fouls a ton. Of course a chunk of his limited minutes are based on garbage time but that's all we have to go on.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:20 pmExactly Kek. Re: Luka Garza back 2 year
Perfect! The FA news thread is a little too cluttered for me, so this stood right out as the info I've been waiting to see. I think it's a solid signing. We need cheap, young guys to fill out our roster. Garza hasn't had much playing time in NBA - so his talent remains somewhat unknown - at least to me. It will be interesting to see if Finch actually uses anyone outside of his fixed 10 guys though.
Re: Luka Garza back 2 year
i totally agree, Kek. I love this and find it somewhat unexpected. Like you, I love what he brings to the table for this team at a bargain price. The long reliever analogy is a nice one. I might go with the utility infielder who can field but can’t hit or a reliable pinch hitter who can hit the long ball but can’t field a position.kekgeek wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:06 am Officially got the league minimum. Re: Luka Garza back 2 year
Considering I think Garza would make infinitely more overseas, he's making a big financial sacrifice staying but good for him.
Re: Luka Garza back 2 year
I had thought that at one point but looking at some overseas salaries I'm not sure. Garza is going into his 4th year in the league so that's a little over 2.2 million this season. I'm not sure he would make a ton more than that his first year overseas. Look at what some NBA guys have been able to work themselves into this off-season plus every year you are in the league that vet min goes up.WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:49 pm Considering I think Garza would make infinitely more overseas, he's making a big financial sacrifice staying but good for him.
It's also worth mentioning the NBA pension (starts going up after 3 years in the league), health insurance etc. If you are able to stick in the league 10 years you have some pretty good benefits for yourself and family. With this new contract Garza is already halfway to the point of the maximum benefits.
