Garnett was not a #1 on a championship team, whereas Ant can be. KG needed a closer like Paul Pierce to win a title, Ant is our closer. KG was one of the best players of his generation. Ant has the potential to be one of the best players of all generations.

Obviously, there are few opportunities to pair All NBA teammates...rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 1:57 pm To reach the level of Kevin Garnett is going to be tough for anyone to do. He is one of the best players of all time. Now Garnett only had one really awesome supporting cast and that was the only year that the Wolves made it beyond the first round. You never know from year to year what can happen, but I do foresee Ant getting out of the first round multiple times as a Wolf. For now lets just enjoy the ride, if we can beat Denver, that is going to be quite the statement for Ant, for Rudy, for Kat, for Mike and all of our players legacies, especially Wolves legacies.
... but tell me that Edwards and Garnett wouldn't make one helluva pairing.
They would complement each other well on the court.

Obviously, KG won the title on another team (can't really count his non Wolves years and stats I think to be fair). If Ant can help get the Wolves a title then he will surpass KG. Even making the finals might make the argument pretty strong. Still a ways to go for sure to get to that level. Let's see a series win against Denver to start. Good start though for sure. A sweep was unexpected from me and I think everyone else on here. They got a chance!Sundog wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 9:21 am Cmon doper, I agree he’s fantastic but you’re getting a little carried away. People forget how good Garnett was:
NBA champion (2008)
NBA Most Valuable Player (2004)
15× NBA All-Star (1997, 1998, 2000–2011, 2013)
NBA All-Star Game MVP (2003)
4× All-NBA First Team (2000, 2003, 2004, 2008)
3× All-NBA Second Team (2001, 2002, 2005)
2× All-NBA Third Team (1999, 2007)
NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2008)
9× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2000–2005, 2008, 2009, 2011)
3× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2006, 2007, 2012)
4× NBA rebounding champion (2004–2007)
NBA All-Rookie Second Team (1996)
NBA 75th Anniversary Team
NBA Hall of Fame
Kevin Garnett is still the Greatest Timberwolf and will be for a while. Ant will get there though!

It would be negligent to not acknowledge some key moves that have helped mold ANT as quickly as we are seeing. Tim Connelly and Chris Finch have been instrumental in molding the young piece of clay we call ANT. I think it was in ANT & KAT's post game presser where ANT comments on his growth under Finch, starting with the normal coach/player relationship and developing into something more. And Connelly is the one after trading for Mike and NAW that said everything they are doing is to surround ANT (and the young players) with "adults in the room" to aid in their development, putting them in the fast lane.
The Gobert trade was done to address the team deficiencies laid bare in the Memphis playoff series. The Conley trade was done to aid in ANT's growth. And we are witnessing the fruits of those transactions today.

So if he wins next round its official?
Re: Anthony Edwards - Greatest Timberwolf
Welp. News of Ant having another secret baby mama came out today. 3 girls pregnant at the age of 23.
Re: Anthony Edwards - Greatest Timberwolf
Wow, I am really naive. I thought when they called Ant one of the most productive 23-year-olds in NBA history, they were talking about basketball.
All seriousness aside, good move by TC to bring in an older guy like Terrence Shannon to mentor our superstar.

This is my biggest fear with Ant, that he turns out to be a complete knucklehead a la Shawn Kemp. Three girls pregnant is 2 too many for being 23 years old. I know it probably got I rolls when I said it, but I really wonder what he was doing during the playoffs to get himself so worn out during the 3rd round. Had to be burning the candle at both ends. I also wonder if he isn't listening to anybody from the coaches, veterans, or even Adidas. They all had to have had this talk with him in one form or another. I think this is terrible news about his professionalism and character. I don't want to be a Debbie downer, but this is a red flag and you wonder whether he's ever going to get it. Don't tell me this doesn't have anything to do with him on the court. Bullshit it don't. The thought of what we might be able to get for him crossed my mind just now for the first time since he's been here. Just didn't need this news, and yet I'm not surprised by it one iota.
