I had been wondering if a sign and trade was possible for Kyle Anderson. I guess I have my answer.
Cool I think I would be fine giving Anderson the money for this year and maybe even next year but maybe not in year 3. Of course 9 million for Kyle Anderson in year 3 could end up being a value deal. Idk With the Wolves financial situation it simply is tough to start giving out money to guys that long out. It can backfire and I love Kyle Anderson. He was a guy I had targeted that FA period when we initially signed him.
Edit: 3rd year is non-guaranteed...I knew this was coming but yeah it sucks they couldn't keep him for that type of deal.
I think that our offensive struggles were a bit exacerbated with KA due to his lack of shooting. You can get along with one guy like Rudy not spacing, but then having both on the floor both clogging up the paint. Pretty tough on guys like Ant.
With that contract I can see letting him walk. We just have to hope a guy like Shannon can come in and do decent. Doesn't need to be great. Just hit some open 3's at a reasonable rate and defend alright. He looks fairly well rounded and pretty ready to play, he is 23 already. Decent handle, finishes at the rim well, etc..
I was watching more of Dilly as well. He's already got a nice lob dunk touch to his game, saw him do a couple in some highlights. The dude is a pretty good passer for his age. He draws and dishes well inside also. I think Dilly and Rudy are going to be a great hit on offense.

It's not our money but is Kyle Anderson worth what like 20 million more than a guy they can sign for the vet min? Maybe but I can see signing a guy with a different skill set that's not quite as good having a solid effect. Again the sights should and will be set higher but Troy Brown Jr as a solid defender who can make some 3's and stay out of the way wouldn't be terrible plus he is still young so could end up being a depth piece for a long time. Minott could be a guy ready for a real role. At some point if you draft guys because they are cheap you should probably play them to get that value.
I will miss SloMo. It's a shame his shooting splits were so hot and cold from year one to two. If the Dilly trade didn't come to fruition, they probably would have kept Kyle. It might not be fair to put the tax penalty payments on the newest signees but that's how it goes.
Wolves have the right to swap. They are not required to swap
The problem is that the Jazz pick will be good so there won't be an incentive to swap so it is essentially nothing in return.
If I read it right Golden State doesn't have control of their 2nd rounders till 2029. The Wolves have their 2nd rounder that year also so that could be it. I suppose it could be later to like 2031 or whatever. Lol It's not a ton but the chance to upgrade your pick a few or maybe quite a few slots ain't a bad thing to have. You never know. Also CASH!!!! Lol
I didn't bother looking into the Warriors pick situation so that is good news. The Wolves have some crappy 2nds coming and it would be nice to have the chance to swap out.
Bobby Marks confirms the Wolves will have a trade exception equal to Kyle's year one salary for one year to use. When they became a second apron team they lost their Troy Brown trade exception but any made while in it second apron are allowed. So the Wolves could start looking at players under contract that fit under 9 million.
Edit: He reneged and confirms 2nd apron teams CANNOT create a trade exception with a sign and trade player. So nevermind.

Finch loved him more then I did this last year. He did pass and defend well. It's hard when a guy doesn't or can't shoot the open 3 though. Then it's like 4 on 5. I'm fine with them rolling with youth and rolling the dice a bit. We can as you say still sign vet min guys and KA wasn't really much better, as you point out. You never know, a vet min guy can come in and give us more even if the guys like Minott / Shannon / etc are not ready.
Can't say I'm that disappointed to see Slo Mo gone, especially for 27 mil / 3 year deal rumour suggests.
He was great defensively and as a secondary ball handler in half court sets, but completely bogged down our offense and was unplayable next to Gobert. If we want to play a faster pace game like TC suggests, then Slo Mo was the worst possible fit.

What hurt maybe more than the 3 point shooting issue was he shot under 50% on 2 point shots both in the regular season and the playoffs. The previous year he was well over 50% on 2’s. He was actually even better passing this year than last with more assists and slightly lower Turnovers than last year which means after those first few weeks he was absolutely terrific because he was turning it over early in the season.
I will still say Anderson was quite valuable and may have bounced back to some extent but I don’t think he is near the impact that say Bruce brown was for the Nuggets when they lost him. A guy like Justin Holiday playing Anderson’s minutes on the wing…that may not be that bad. Letting go of Anderson may also open up more Minutes for Naz also.

There aren't many non-Centers these days that can get away with having absolutely zero outside shot, but the ones that do tend to be really good on 2s. Kyle simply missed too many of those 3-10 footers that teams would give him in and around the paint. If he could have cashed those in more often, he would have been much less of an offensive liability despite the lack of a 3-pt shot.

Yes and to further the point Anderson took 48% of his shots from that range and made only 43.8% of them. 51.3 true shooing percentage is bad. He scored less and was clearly worse at it this year and that's well aside from his 3 point shooting and lack thereof.
Despite all that if money literally was no issue I would still want him back because he is still a good player and I tend to think he would bounce back in terms of being better at putting the ball in the basket when he decided to do so.
