Lip where are you getting your G-league stats from? I think you are missing total G-league games (and therefore stats) played for those guys.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:18 am I just checked their G-League stats a minute ago. One thing that struck me was then minutes differential. Miller played 20 minutes per game last season in the G-League and 24 minutes the season before. In contrast, Josh Minott played only 8 minutes last season and 9 the season before. I’m not sure what to make of it. One thing for sure is that Miller has had a lot more G-League playing time than Minott to develop his game.
Minott didn’t play much his one season in college. He hasn’t played much in two years of G-league competition and he’s has had very little PT with the NBA Wolves. He needs to play or he won’t develop. It’s a black mark on the Wolves organization that they didn’t get Minott in at least 20 G-League games in each of the past two seasons.

I checked a couple sites because it surprised me. They both show the same. Here’s the basketball reference site showing Minott’s minutes.

Your browser must be playing tricks on you, Lip. The link you provided shows way more than 9 MPG for Minott. It looks like that only shows the "Showcase" games. There is a regular season as well. Here is the G-league link for Minott that includes both the Showcase and Regular Season.

Whoops. Meant to say 9 GAMES and 8 GAMES versus Millers 20 and 26 games. Don’t know how I ended up typing minutes per game. Losing my mind.60WinTim wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 5:25 pm Your browser must be playing tricks on you, Lip. The link you provided shows way more than 9 MPG for Minott. Re: Minott & Miller
Last season Miller played 20 regular season G-League games and 12 showcase games for a total of 32. In contrast, Minott played 8 regular season G-League games and 4 showcase games for a total of 12. That’s what caught me by surprise before my brain and fingers became disconnected.
Re: Minott & Miller
Lip to be fair it does seem like the G-league sets up their stats to try to confuse us! 2 different sets of games regular season and the showcase, putting the most recent season at the top of the stats which actually makes some sense but out of the ordinary.
A couple other things about Miller was he almost doubled his assist rate while barely increasing his turnovers. Actually 2.1 turnovers for a big that put up 19.5 points (up from 16.9) and 3 assists a game is not bad at all especially considering it’s the G-league with new teammates and not always playing every game etc. of course the thing people worry about is defense and effort but at least statistically he did make some progress on offense.

Yep, it can be confusing - at least to me. . I looked at Miller’s stats more closely after your prior post and noticed the improvements you’re referring to. I like his improved stats except for his plus/minus which became far worse than the previous season and one of the worst on Iowa Wolves. And I have a hard time unseeing his complete lack of defensive effort in the video clips I’ve seen. His talent is really high and I’m not ready to write him off. But he has to show a competitive fire that might not be there.Monster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 9:32 pm Lip to be fair it does seem like the G-league sets up their stats to try to confuse us! 2 different sets of games regular season and the showcase, putting the most recent season at the top of the stats which actually makes some sense but out of the ordinary.

Now that I’m reading the stats correctly, I’m still confused by how few G-League games Minott played last season compared to Miller. I noticed that Minott played more NBA games than Miller last season but Minott only averaged 2.8 meaningless minutes per game. For sake of his development, Minott should have logged at least 20 G-League games like Miller last season.
Re: Minott & Miller
I will say that both of the last 2 seasons there were G-league games that the Wolves likely had Minott active because of injuries especially to Towns.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:20 pmYep, it can be confusing - at least to me. . Q and others who watched Iowa games can speak to this more but it just seemed like that team was kind of a disaster in a number of ways which seems obvious since they were 13-37 including their not terrible 6-10 showcase record. Poor rebounding numbers for a few guys and the team as a whole which to some extent wasn't surprising since they didn't have much size at the big spots much of the season. They were 31st in defense. It looks like they did some positive things offensively but it didn't seem like things went well at all. Will they stick with that coach or maybe they realized they needed to actually add some size which they did signing Edwards? To me I sorta have to question the development of some players especially defensively in Iowa last year. We're the players part of the problem? Sure but we have seen bad coaching at the NBA level so it could be an issue in Iowa too. They need to get that figured out. Maybe they need a better defensive coach down there.
Re: Minott & Miller
I think you’re right about having Minott active in a number of games because of KAT’s injury. But his 2.8 minutes per game tells me it would have been far more sensible to have Minott playing games in the G-League for sake of his development.Monster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:49 pmI will say that both of the last 2 seasons there were G-league games that the Wolves likely had Minott active because of injuries especially to Towns.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:20 pmYep, it can be confusing - at least to me. . Then again, you make a great point about how terrible our G-League team was last season. In that sense, perhaps more G-League time for Minott would NOT have furthered his development. . I have no idea why the Iowa Wolves were so bad, but I suspect some if not most of it had something to do with poor coaching. If up to me, I would replace the Iowa head coach and coaching staff going into next season.
