REVENGE TIME! Wolves/Mavs GDT

Post by FNG »

FNG puts his 2-0 record on the line by daring to tee up a GDT against the team that easily handled us just a few months ago. This should be a fun one. I don't like reading in the Strib this morning that Conley is battling a left wrist injury...could be why his shooting has been so off this season. He says he's okay, but this could open the door for the first appearance from Dillingham. Not likely though, as I know Finchie really wants to win this one. Dallas has added Klay to their starting lineup, and he has shot well. But I think losing Jones Jr. who was so tough on us in the playoffs might be more impactful...could be why the oddsmakers have us as a surprising 5 1/2 point favorite.

LFG!!!!!

I'm hoping we have a game plan for defending the lob dunks.

Yes! Luka is a pick-your-poison type of player. You just have to live with some of the stuff he can do, but I agree that stopping the lob dunks is a priority and that means playing drop coverage and not feeling like we have to go over every freakin' high screen set for him. Go under the damn screen because the second he gets that trailing defender on his butt, it's over. That means you have to sometimes give up the open 3. Well, he's playing a back to back and is a career 35% 3-point shooter. That's a higher variance shot than open lob dunks or wide open Klay corner 3s because the low man has to cover the screen setter!

Dallas's lobs last year were more than frustrating. I've noticed though that in our first three games this season, multiple feeders have connected with Rudy for dunks...Mike, Jaden, Ant, DiVo, Randle and Ingles, I think (maybe not Randle, not sure). You know there has been a lot of discussion about how to stop the Mavs' lob game. I'm going to make a bold prediction: the Wolves will have more lob dunks tonight than Dallas.

Now, who will Finchie put on Luka tonight? We learned last year that Jaden just isn't strong enough to defend him, and I don't know if Randle has any history with him. I'm thinking it might be Ant, but I hope he's smart enough not to get into foul trouble.

I swear to God that Daniel Gafford has made more dunks against the Wolves than any other player against any other team (this dates back to his pre-Dallas days too). It's just absurd.

Shame on Rudy for not getting back on defense...twice.

Wow, Reid with a hell of a block out on Lively to secure the defensive rebound. He usually loses those battles.
