Whoever gets the best player almost always wins the trade in the NBA.
Lord know how Connelly thought this would improve the team by loosing the best three point shooter on the team and downgrading the defense.
I keep hearing the talking heads saying it was to keep Naz, but he is not and never will be as good as KAT.

It was for financial flexibility... and to save money.Wolvesaholic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:18 am Whoever gets the best player almost always wins the trade in the NBA.

The team was looking at some very serious second apron constraints... on top of the lack of picks from the Gobert trade. Someone HAD to go. Towns made the most sense at the time. But it's fair to question the return.

Since this topic seems likely to be the defining one of the season... I'll leave this here:

So... the Timberwolves are struggling mightily even though they've been the healthiest team in the league by far.

Yep, we've been really healthy. And we've also been fortunate to play teams missing key players (DeRozen is out again tonight).AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:36 am Since this topic seems likely to be the defining one of the season... I'll leave this here:

But as I mentioned in the game thread, missing Mike Conley has really hurt us ...9-6 when he plays, and 0-4 when he doesn't. I think we could survive any other player being out other than Rudy, but we fall apart when Mike doesn't suit up. It looks like he isn't on the injury list tonight, so hopefully we play with a little more poise.

Did 9 people in this forum seriously vote that the trade made the Wolves better? If so, Wow, just Wow!

Re: Poll - The KAT Trade
they voted with their hearts and not their heads.
They were so done with KAT that they convinced themselves that KAT couldn't be the 2nd best player on a title contender, but 80% of him could. On top of that, Jaden at late first round salary and expectations = awesome. Jaden at his current salary and role = major disappointment.
Maybe it's too late but maybe not, but this franchise has to be less caring about what Randle needs UNLESS he wants to lead the 2nd unit.
Re: Poll - The KAT Trade
I just can't believe all the praise TC has gotten on this forum. He's terrible and can't wait for Wolves fans to wake the fukk up about how bad he's been. Maybe after the Wolves miss the playoffs and fans watch Utah and San Antonio stockpile talent from our lottery picks, they'll realize how bad he's been. How one organization can get so many disastrous GMs is beyond me. Kahn, Thibs and TC all deserve Fs. I hated Rosas too for that stupid DLO trade, but I give him props for drafting Ant. Flip was the only decent GM the Wolves have ever had and of course, he had to die on us.
Re: Poll - The KAT Trade
Too bad this poll is closed. Someone should start a new one, which should produce a very different result.
Re: Poll - The KAT Trade
While I think the improvement from other squads and Bostons continued dominance would have made this year even harder, not running it back really sucks. After a few years of the FO and Glenn/lore/arod seeming to be serious about building a contender, they chicken out after maxing out what could be improved personnel-wise, and instead of trusting that what they built (with continuity and player growth) they punt. And it seems to have had a demotivating effect on the players. And the scenario that was most feared (Conley getting older / no backup pg / forcing dilly into action before he’s ready) is happening anyways because divo is a disaster at playmaking and organizing at PG (not mentioning his ugly shooting so far, like how are your misses THAT far off??) and we already knew NAW wasn’t an option.
Meanwhile, a team like Phoenix, who everyone was dooming for having an even worse cap situation managed to make some tweaks and (pending the health of KD) look to be better than last year.
So now we have to hope that dillingham grows up fast, divo finds his shot after we stop relying on him to initiate the offense, and that we can somehow flip Randle for a Daniel gafford type player (making us a bit undersized at the 4 behind naz).

Re: Poll - The KAT Trade
I agree. I didn’t like the big swing for Rudy two years ago but it worked last season so I was at peace with it. But not running it back this season for one more shot is hard to accept. Note that the KAT trade did NOT free us from 2nd apron restrictions or bring in any great long-term assets. It merely saved ownership some money that’s actually trivial relative to the organization’s total budget not to mention the wealth of the owners. Our front office knew what happened two seasons ago when it was just Rudy with KAT injured all season. Randle’s poor defense and lane-clogging offense were also well known.davemang wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 1:03 pm While I think the improvement from other squads and Bostons continued dominance would have made this year even harder, not running it back really sucks. Maybe this team will turn things around yet this season. It’s not too late and we have a lot of talent on this team. But based on what we’ve seen so far and looking at the mix of talent we have, I’m not expecting a turn-around - at least not good enough to return this team to championship contention. So I think we’re close to cutting loose and re-tooling for the future yet again.
